Friday night lights are my favorite—
not just because of the game,
but because of everything wrapped around it.

The hum of the crowd.
The band practicing that same song they’ve played for decades.
The smell of popcorn and nachos drifting through the cool night air.
The little kids playing tag behind the bleachers,
faces sticky with candy,
while the dads lean against the fence—catching up on events of the week.

It’s parents bundled in blankets,
grandparents in lawn chairs on the track,
neighbors stopping to catch up like no time has passed.

It’s the way the whole town shows up,
every week,
to cheer not only for a team—
but for one another.

Because Friday night lights aren’t just about football.
They're about tradition.
About remembering what it feels like to be part of something bigger than yourself.

And that’s why they’ll always be my favorite.
