This would have made a great Galentine’s Day post, but tonight I’m feeling the feels and missing my Paris friends.
I was asked to speak at my son’s school yesterday morning and as I was going through photos to put together the presentation, I came across so many wonderful memories of my time living in France. The friendships that I formed and the memories that I made have stayed with me . There was something so incredibly special about that time that I will never be able to re-create. There’s a sadness to that, but there’s also a joy in looking back at photos from that time.
The friends that I made during those formative years are still some of my best friends. I’m so looking forward to reuniting with many of them when I go back to Paris next month. It always feels like home.

2022 is coming to a close, and I'm eager to welcome 2023! We've had one of the best and hardest years ever.
I've learned so much. I've always thought of myself as a patient person, but the buildout of our new boutique tested that notion. It's almost been 2 years since I first saw the space, and to see the transformation finally coming to a close (I won't say the end because I have so many more ideas) is a relief.
We closed out the year with the installation of our long-awaited wallpaper by . It's been a LONG time coming, but so worth it. I walk through the room now and can't believe I'm lucky to call this place mine. I have lots planned to show you exactly how it came to be and what makes it so special, so for now, visit its handpainted goodness in person for yourself!
This year has taught us a lot about our process. We grew in revenue and our team. There were moments when I wasn't sure we would get it all done (spoiler alert, we did!). Because of our growth, we had more tight turnarounds than we ever anticipated, and we knew that to offer you the level of luxury you deserve, we needed to look at our process and improve it.
Our new Design Consultation process is among many other systems we are implementing behind the scenes. If you are interested in having something made in the new year and have not yet scheduled your appointment, you'll want to read the BLOG about these changes. Don't worry! It's to make life better for everyone, especially you!
Thank you again for supporting us this year. The amount of love we received after (both) of the robberies was staggering. Knowing that we have a community that cares about us as much as we care about them is everything.

t shouldn't be a secret that I LOVE books. But what if books were just another pretty face?
I mean, I know you WANT to read all the books, but there just isn't time. What if I told you there are books you can buy just for their covers and how gorgeous they are?
And that no one will judge you because they are that pretty?
Mind you, I have read all these books because I am that kind of nerd, but when I saw how insanely gorgeous they were, I bought them for the store because of their covers. Yes, I was that person.
You can be too!
With gilt pages, embossed covers, and beautiful designs, you aren't going to feel guilty if you don't read them. (I may judge you, but...)
These beautiful books make the ideal gift. They are the perfect accessory for a guest room nightstand. Your guests will think you are literary AND have the most exquisite taste. Fake it until you make it, I say!
So go ahead and judge a book by its cover. You'll be glad you did.

Gratitude only begins to describe how I feel this Thanksgiving.
Record breaking sales have had our entire team working overtime. We’ve been going 7 days a week for the past month or so.
As a small business, these are the problems that you hope and dream to have. It’s been hard, not only the hours but the pressure to make sure that our clients feel seen and appreciated.

Seems like yesterday and also another lifetime.
We lived a lot of lives in those years, lost 2 parents, had 2 kids, and been through some incredible highs and the lowest of lows.

Not going to sugar coat it. It’s been a rough week. Actually, a rough month or two. We have had explosive growth and with that has come new challenges. Don’t get me wrong, these are all good problems, but we have been working overtime (and then some) to deliver to our clients and make sure they are thrilled with their experience. It’s been HARD.
Some days can be exhausting, but when I get images like this from clients wearing the creations we’ve make, I’m suddenly not so tired!

My Story
I’m David. My official title here is “Head of Everything,” which sums it up pretty much. My days range from finding myself on the studio floor, pinning a hem, to throwing on a tux and heading out to a black-tie gala or wedding for a client. I am mostly known for custom, couture quality wedding and evening gowns & easy pieces that become wardrobe staples. I’m the king of winging it and making it work.
Collaborating with fellow small business owners and making women feel like the best possible version of themselves is what gets me going. My life’s passions are travel, movies, good TV (and some of the bad to be honest), and my family. Textiles sourced from around the globe, exuberant color, playful textures, and artistic prints are infused into my designs, many of which are limited editions. I love that we make our clothing here in Houston in our own factory that’s connected to our boutique.
I design for women who want something a little different and appreciate quality clothes that stand the test of time. Luxury isn’t just the number of zeros on a price tag, it’s an experience. Getting to know our clients and what makes them tick is what sets us apart. There are a ton of beautiful dresses in the world, but the experience of having something made for you that truly makes you feel comfortable and the best version of you is what makes us unique. Having clothing made for you doesn’t have to be scary or intimidating. It should be fun and enjoyable. That’s what we do!
Each summer, I am a guest artist at Interlochen Center for the Arts. Houston Chronicle named me one of the Most Interesting People of 2015, and I was a League of Women Voters Rising Star. I served as the Chair of the Fashion Task Force for the Greater Houston Partnership for four years, for three years as the Creative Director and Producer for the KNOWAutism Gala, have co-chaired the Alley Theatre Ball After Party, and my wife Michelle and I co-chaired the Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) 2018 Gala & the Judy’s Mission Possible Luncheon 2018. As a creative consultant, I’ve overseen the uniform design of the JW Marriot Houston Downtown, Hotel Ylem, and Oxbow 7 at Le Méridien Houston Downtown.
My work has been featured on the cover of Women's Wear Daily and in publications such as Teen Vogue, Lucky, Marie Claire, InStyle, and People Style Watch as well as popular television shows America’s Next Top Model, Hart of Dixie, and E! News. I’ve also been lucky enough to dress celebrities like Kate Bosworth, Jaime King, Giuliana Rancic, Mayim Bialik, Maggie Grace, Ashlan Gorse, Kelly Levesque, Rose McGowan, Esperanza Spalding, Lauren Conrad, and Taylor Swift. I’ve also had my creations exhibited at the Ellen Noël Art Museum(a Smithsonian Affiliate) and at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.
When I’m not busy working, you can catch me chasing after my two toddler boys and planning my next world adventure. While I love exploring new places, I would never complain about going back to Aspen, London, and Paris.
If you’re dying to hear more, here are five things you might not know about me.
1. I lived and worked in Paris, France for almost 5 years while attending Parsons Paris School of Art + Design. 2. My first degree is in classical cello and I spent several summers at Aspen Music Festival. And no, I haven’t played since I was in a Jack Johnson-y type band in Paris over 11 years ago. 3. I tried out for the second season of American Idol and ended up sleeping on the street in downtown Detroit and then crashing with strangers I met in line while going through the audition process.
4. I serve on the board of several arts organizations including TUTS (Theatre Under The Stars, Houston), Houston Community College Advisory Board, Paris College of Art (Paris, France), and PS One Portfolio School (Beijing, China) which allows me to travel the world doing what I love.
5. Before moving to Paris, I had only been out of the USA for 48 hours for a quick trip to England (unless you count crossing the Canadian border at Niagra Falls).

HGO’s Opera's Ball: Le Voyage à Marrakech took place on Saturday, April 9. The event’s 470-plus guests were greeted with a red-carpet arrival at Fish Plaza, traditional Moroccan tea, and a photo op with a camel!
Pre-dinner entrainment included a grand entrance from Ball chairs Jennifer and Ben Fink, a belly dance performance, and a surprise serenade of "La Vie en Rose" by soprano Ana María Martínez. The evening continued with a full night of dancing and festivities, followed by the ENCORE After Party.
The spectacular Opera Ball raised over $1.25 million to support the internationally renowned performances and community programs HGO presents in Houston each year.
