Sacred Heart Society took it on the road today to visit one of its most venerated members, 97-year old, Nelson Thornton. The Club snuck in a quart of its world famous for Nelson to enjoy 🍝 and received a gift itself; an unexpected visit with long time SHS gem, Camilla Scalise! The visit did the soul good and we parted in typical fashion, with a heart felt “assabenedica”🇮🇹!!!!

welcomed Fall at the last weekend while celebrating the flora of the Mediterranean! What an honor to profile and the pivotal role the many cultures that inhabited the island had across the millennia. The Greeks (olives, grapes), Romans (frumentu wheat), Arabs (citrus fruits, ), Normans and Spanish (ficu d’inni) left their indelible mark on the plants, trees, and crops - many of which were brought to Texas and now flourish. That day we welcomed many honorary Sicilian Americans from the area. Find your outreach!

Being no stranger to epic famines and manmade strife across the millennia, descendants hold dear their Patron during periods of upheaval and despair. The following prayer was found in 50 A.D. and in 1505 it was sent from the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle. It is believed that whoever shall read this prayer or hear it or keep it about themselves, shall never fall into the hands of the enemy. Please join us in spreading this prayer for intercession which has historically turned the tide of hopelessness in times past.

Prayer to

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, we place in you all our interests and desires. Oh, St. Joseph, do assist us by your powerful intercession, and obtain for us from your divine Son all spiritual blessings [to end the Coronavirus and resulting cultural strife], through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, we may offer our thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers. Oh, St. Joseph, we never weary contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; we dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in our name and kiss his fine head for us and ask him to return the kiss when we draw our dying breath. St. Joseph, pray for us.

128 years after the worst mob lynching in American history, the mayor of New Orleans presents a proclamation of apology last week to the Italian American community and to the descendants of some of the 11 Italian (largely Sicilian) immigrants who were murdered after being acquitted in 1891. Houston’s Sacred Heart Society was there along with contingents from New York and California to support our southern brothers. To the innocent men who lost their lives that day: Riposa in pace tutti vuatri (Rest in peace). Check out the interview by New Orleans’ own Charles “Alligator” Marsala👀

Quietly enjoying my last quart of Sacred Heart sugo. We sure do miss you guys!
When I worked in downtown Houston, I did not have to worry about lunch plans on Thursday. We headed off to the Sacred Heart Society of Little Your hall for spaghetti and meatballs. One of my memories was seeing Tommy Lasorda enjoying lunch at the hall when the Dodgers were in town to play the Astros.

Today, Mr. Lasorda reached the Hall of Fame we all aspire to: Heaven. He was baseball to me - Mr. Baseball.

May the memories of Tommy Lasorda and those men of the Sacred Heart Society of Little York who have gone before us be eternal.
Are you guys back in business???
What day are you serving?
