I visited my first country when I was twenty years old and what a life changing experience it was. I joined the Navy to see the world and I did just that by visiting eight countries before I was twenty one years of age. I will never forget the first day I stepped on foreign soil in Israel. It was late in the day and we were in the city of Haifa. I remember thinking to myself I was going to see the Holy city and expected to see people walking around with kippahs on their head and was really just expecting to see a strict religious scene. As we got off the bus and started walking around I remember hearing music so I started making my way to find the source. I was excited to hear some local music and was filled with anticipation. But when I got closer I recognized the music as Alan Jackson country music filling up a local bar. I laughed to myself and headed in where I was greeted by the waitstaff who all spoke excellent English. I thought to myself where am I again? Later in the trip I of course found what I was expecting as I traveled to Jerusalem, Bethlehem and saw the Tomb of Jesus and other holy sites. I was also baptized in the Jordan River that trip. As far as my first country visited it really made an impression on me and began my love for travel. I can go on and on about trips after that and I am sure I will one day but for now, where will your next adventure take YOU?
