The hydrageas, eucalyptus, palms, roses, Eryogium blue (I call thistle flower), and Veronica were flying as stems became beautiful flower arrangments at the Mother and Daughter event hosted by the Dozen and a Half Club. Homegrown & Co. had the best time Wednesday evening, July 9, with all the special ladies who make up the Dozen And Half Club and their mothers and daughters. Each guest got to choose and design their own Mason jar arrangement, each design as unique and special as the designer! Thanks for inviting Homegrown & Co. to be a part of this special event. 💜💜💜

Homegrown & Co. had the best time with the Parents as Teachers organization on Thursday. Thank you to Dana Clary for asking us to share what we love with this great group. Each person got to choose their flowers from our flower cart. We discussed cleaning stems, the basics of arranging, and to just enjoy the process. We ended up with lots of beautiful arrangements!

Here is the latest on the work happening in the Homegrown gardens. We’ve had a busy few weeks planting flowers. Some favorites, in all colors, along with many new beauties. If you have ever planted celosia or cosmos, you know how tiny the seeds are. It’s amazing what one tiny seed can produce.

Today we planted the first round of pumpkins. The pumpkin varieties range from 125 days to 70 days maturity. In about 10 days we will plant the 100 day pumpkins, so that they will be ready for fall market.

Now we wait for all the seeds to sprout!

I’m not sure how we did it, but somehow we talked the guys into stopping their corn and soybean planting to help us get the tractor and mulcher, so we could lay the plastic rows for planting our flowers! All I can say is it must be true love!!! How excited are we? Whoop!!!! Whoop!!! Here are the pictures from our prep. The flower seeds can now be planted.

With each new growing season we anxiously make our flower garden plans based on what flowers grow well in our area, on the colors, shapes, sizes, and varieties. The majority of our flowers are planted from seeds in May. After the seeds are in the ground the average blooming time ranges from 60-120 days depending on variety. Every week we have new blooms in the garden. Yes, it’s a treat to walk into the garden to see and smell the new varieties blooming!

We have always taken orders for flower arrangements, bouquets, and funeral sprays, and look forward to continuing that this summer, but in our fourth year we are excited to offer a new option to keep these beautiful fresh flowers in your home or business all summer to late fall, by offering bouquet subscriptions. These beautiful fresh, unique bouquets will be available in a quart size vase or Mason jar.

Bouquet Subscriptions:
$90.00 = 3 bouquets delivered in Highland or farm pick up for free. Delivery out of Highland $10 each delivery.
$150.00 = 5 bouquets delivered in Highland or farm pick up for free. Delivery out of Highland $10 each delivery.
$275.00 = 10 bouquets delivered in Highland or farm pick up for free. Delivery out of Highland $10 each delivery.
If these options don’t meet your needs please contact us to customize your subscription. Also, if you return your vases or Mason jars there will be a discount. We will be in touch with you to decide on pick up or delivery instructions.

We deliver within a 30 mile radius, but if you live outside the 30 mile radius please reach out to us, we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Reminder, delivery fee is $10 per delivery.

What a great idea for Mother’s Day, a birthday, or just to treat yourself. Please keep in mind that the flowers won’t be ready until late June, so subscriptions will start in July and continue until the end of the subscription. We have gift certificates available to include with a greeting card, so that the person you’re treating will know what to look forward to.

Also, peonies will be blooming on the farm soon, so if you love them like we do, we can also make them a part of your subscription or you can order at your desire. Let us know if you’re interested in a bouquet of the most aromatic, beautiful pale pink flowers. Peonies have a short blooming season so don’t miss out! We expect them to bloom in a few weeks.

The following pictures are great examples of our arrangments and the variety of flowers cut fresh on the farm in Northeast Kansas. There are many more varieties than listed.

Please contact Homegrown & Co., with questions.

We take Venmo, cash, or personal check.

Homegrown & Co. is excited for this time of year with warmer weather and the promise of new life that it brings. We’ve been plotting and planning all winter and soon it will be time to put flower and pumpkin seeds in the ground. Here is the progress we’ve already made: garden maps are made, seeds are in stock, the first tilling is in the books, and soon we will lay the plastic for the planting rows. The last average frost date for Kansas is April 24th, after that planting flower seeds will begin! We’ve probably missed all of you the most! We look forward to offering our Homegrown flowers for all your special occasions. We will keep you informed on our progress and when the flowers will be ready. More to come!
