Some cakes are just desserts. Others taste like a big ol’ hug from home. 🧡

This beauty is an 8-inch apple c***r cake, dressed up in creamy buttercream frosting, drizzled with my Mom’s homemade cooked caramel icing, and sprinkled with crushed butter cookies for a little extra crunch! 🤤

And the cherry on top? Well, around here, we do things a little differently. 🎃

That tiny mallow pumpkin is a nod to my Mom, who has always loved using those little candy pumpkins to decorate her fall baked goodies. Some traditions are just too sweet not to carry on. 🥹❤️

Some things are just passed down from one generation to the next. 💚

Yesterday, I was working on a practice cake when Elizabeth wandered into the kitchen and announced that she wanted to “make a cake for Mom.”

Now, for those who don’t know, “Mom” is what we call my mother, Elizabeth’s grandmother. But long before that, it’s what we called my grandmother, too. ❤️

And in that moment, I thought about my grandmother. The woman who taught us that the kitchen was a place for making memories, not just making food.

If little me had walked into her kitchen and asked to decorate a cake, she wouldn’t have hesitated. She would’ve handed me an icing bag, pulled up a chair, and let me go to town.

So that’s exactly what I did. 🥹

Were there icing drips? Absolutely. Did we lose control of the piping bag a time or two? You betcha. Was there more buttercream on her fingers than on the cake? I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. 😂

But you know what? I wouldn’t change a single swirl.

Because one day, I hope Elizabeth looks back and remembers a kitchen where she was always welcome, an icing bag that was always hers to hold, and a momma who never minded a little mess.

And somewhere, I like to think my grandmother is smiling.

Four generations. One nickname. A whole lot of buttercream. 💚🎂

Some people hand out candy… but this trunk was serving up a little creativity with a side of BUTTERCREAM! 👑✨

The Buttercream Queen had the SWEETEST opportunity to create 50 individual cookie decorating kits for a client’s Cookie Monster-themed trunk-or-treat event! 💙

Each little kit gave kiddos the chance to decorate their very own cookie, because why just eat a cookie when you can have a little fun first?! 🎨🍪

And can we talk about how ADORABLE this trunk turned out?! Those googly eyes! Those cookies! The whole setup was just TOO CUTE! 😍

I absolutely LOVE getting to be a small part of big memories, especially when it means putting smiles on little faces! 🥹💕

Pull up a chair, y’all. The Buttercream Queen has a little family history to share! 💛

I come from a BIG family. Think My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but German, Irish, British, and French! Loud, loving, full of stories, and nobody leaves hungry. 😂

My grandmother, affectionately known as Mom, was larger than life. Strong, intelligent, creative, and the pillar of our family. She was a writer, baker, humanitarian, historian… the woman wore more hats than I can count!

She and my Papa raised six children and shared 50 years of marriage before he passed. They filled those years with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and memories around the family table!

My momma is the baby of the six. She was my grandmother’s sidekick, just like I’ve always been hers. 💕

When I was about Elizabeth’s size, I was already measuring ingredients and scraping mixing bowls.

Some kids had Easy-Bake Ovens. I skipped the lightbulb and went straight for the real thing! 🤣

So when I say “family recipes,” I mean GENERATIONS of them!

And goodness, I could go on ALL DAY!

Some recipes are written down. Others were passed from kitchen to kitchen, or live in our memories.

I didn’t wake up one morning and decide to become a baker. In so many ways, I’ve been one my whole life.

The Buttercream Queen may have my name on it, but generations of incredible women are behind every batch. And now I get to watch Elizabeth find her place in the kitchen, too. 🥹💕

So yes, I really DO have that many family recipes.

As for the mixers?

A queen never reveals ALL her secrets. 🤭👑
