Here is some PG for ya: Paper Towel Germination Method for zinnias. I am working my real job today and went home at lunch time and started some zinnias on a wet/moistened paper towel. This is a great way to test germination on seeds without going through all the effort initially. It works for so many seeds and it really is practically fool proof. I would know 😂 so, grab that seed packet, paper towel/moistened, lay out the seed, fold & insert in a ziplock. You’ll wanna do this inside where it’s warm, 70 degrees or so 😉 These zinnias should sprout in about 7 days and then I’ll move them into some trays of dirt. How easy is that?!

LONG POST ALERT: It’s been a process for me learning how to divide dahlias. It really isn’t that hard but I struggled the first year. I didn’t know what an eye was and couldn’t tell until it was sprouting. So, I’d replant entire clumps only to find that dividing the following fall is even more challenging. I felt much more confident in dividing this year. Always learning and that’s what I love about this journey. Dahlia tubers need to have a few things in order to sprout/bloom: crown, eyes, and a neck. If the neck is broken, no bueno. If it’s a small tuber, that is ok! You’d be surprised what beauty comes from such a small tuber! Also special thanks to Molly from for meeting up and selling the tubers I wanted (Nathalie, gitty up, wizard of oz, and Linda’s baby). More to come on how I’ve been able to wake these beauties up, what’s worked for me. What are you most excited for this year?
