5B Battle of the Bands

Day 4 was the day we had been waiting for to see take a stage to triumphantly claim her battle prize. Backed by (which also features battle Juge/MC and battle Stage manager and solo entrant - (we’re a tight knit family around here!) and it did not disappoint! From the opening note to the last, this was a powerful set! Also in the house was our youngest battle entrant, Georgia Blu, and 2nd year battle judge .son.shaw.

There was a bit of fun at the Alefort Hootenanny where some of our battle besties took part in a square dance call / lesson.

Later I caught up with a bunch of battle besties at the same couple of shows - , The Barsotti’s, battle entrant Dr Archie of Doghaus, and my trusty stagehand (it’s like we all have the same good taste in music or something 😉).

What a great day 4 for the battle besties all around! It’s been so fun seeing you all perform, support, dance, and Treefort your little hearts out!

Despite my very best efforts to pace myself Wednesday night (sober fort and all) I was too battle weary to make it to day 2 of but I know 2nd year judge did us proud.

On Day 3, year 2 solo entrant, and front woman put on a hell of a show at Pengillys. I know I say this every year but I do think it was the best I’ve heard them, despite some technical difficulties at the end (damn bad cables happen).

Later that same evening at the same venue, my most excellent stage manager, Cam, was part of an absolute rocking set with -dogs. These guys go way back and if you know the stories, that makes it all the more special.

I didn’t make it to the Olympic where Battle MC and judge Mark Oliver fronted his band, , with Cam on the drums, but I have zero doubts they also rocked the . I will get to see them today in another form when they back 2025 battle winner who very deservedly won this slot at Treefort. Do not miss her at 2:40 at . This is a free stage so no festival wristband needed! See ya there!

The Battle was well represented on Day 1 of Treefort Music Fest!
I saw Connor Wade, who backed Izzy Taylor, on fiddle at Pengillys with Dr. Scott’s Electric Hairbrush.
Then I ran into husband and wife duo, Brent and Julie Barsotti - 1st year entrants as Work in Progress.
Next I saw SpudMother rock the Reef! They were so great and played to a great crowd!
Then it was Patrick aka 2nd year entrant, Howlin’ Squirrel, who also backed Izzy. Tonight he was playing with Wes Schlag and the Bad Quitters at the Olympic. This also drew a great crowd of all the cool kids, including battle judges Mark Oliver and Jay Miller, and was another really really good show!
So proud and so exciting to see all these wonderful musicians gracing other stages and venues, or just out in the wild. I hope this is a trend that continues for the rest of the fest!

Battle besties (ardent supporters and friends of the battle) Hurdy Gurdy Girls are performing at Treefort Music Fest on Friday late afternoon / early evening at Pengilly Saloon and aren’t to be missed! See ya there!
