As your wedding planner, I've seen way too many couples make these mistakes when choosing vendors. Trust me, a little prep work now will save you SO much stress (and money) later!

Here's what you absolutely need to know before you hit "book":

• Check their availability FIRST – Don't fall in love with a vendor who's already booked for your date (been there, cried about that)

• Read the contract thoroughly – I know, I know, it's boring as all get out, but those cancellation policies and payment schedules matter big time

• Ask about their backup plan – What happens if they get sick? Equipment fails? Mother Nature decides to crash your outdoor ceremony?

• Request recent references – Not just the glowing testimonials on their website, but real couples who've worked with them in the last 6 months

• Understand what's included vs. extra – That "affordable" package might not be so budget-friendly once you add in all the "extras"

This weekend, I got the chance to experience a wedding from a different perspective—not as the coordinator, but as a bridesmaid.

Being on the other side of a wedding day was such a special reminder of why wedding coordination matters so much. Instead of managing timelines, answering vendor questions, and making sure every detail was in place, I was able to simply be present—celebrating, supporting the bride, and soaking in every moment.

It reinforced something I always tell my couples: your wedding day should be spent making memories, not managing logistics.

As a coordinator, my goal is to give couples the freedom to enjoy their day the way I was able to enjoy this one—fully present, stress-free, and focused on the people they love most.
