Wolf O’Donnell was never going to show up quietly.

This costume needed the purple, the claws, and that huge Star Wolf insignia across the back. It had to feel cocky, dangerous, and just a little louder than Fox McCloud would appreciate.

Katie Strength built the jacket from the ground up. She handled the patterning, fit, color blocking, and all those purple and magenta panels. Getting that enormous graphic to sit correctly across the back wasn’t easy, but she pulled it off beautifully.

Todd Welch made the armor, gauntlets, and claws, then painted and weathered everything until it felt like Wolf had actually been out there causing problems in the Lylat System.

This costume shows exactly why we work so well together. Katie knows how to make a character’s clothing fit and move on a real person. Todd builds the harder pieces and brings in the wear, damage, and attitude. Somewhere between the sewing machine, the printers, and a lot of purple, Wolf showed up.

OuterRim is really Katie and Todd bringing two completely different skill sets to the same table.

Katie makes fabric behave. She handles the tailoring, patterning, fit, drape, finishing, and the tiny details that make everything feel right.

Todd gets the armor, props, 3D printing, paint, weathering, and fabrication side.

Then we meet in the middle and build the character.

That’s us.

Day three at Colorado Springs Comic-Con.

At this point we’re tired, caffeinated, probably covered in thread and paint somewhere, and still having a ridiculous amount of fun.

OuterRim really is the two of us smashed together creatively.

Katie handles the sewing, tailoring, fit, fabric, patterning, and all those little details that make a costume actually sit right on a real human body.

Todd handles the armor, props, printing, paint, weathering, structure, and the occasional “I think I can build that” decision that gets completely out of hand.

And that partnership is a huge part of what makes OuterRim what it is.

The floor is busy, the costumes are incredible, and we’ve already had so many great conversations today.

Colorado Springs Comic Con, we’re here!

We’re Todd and Katie from OuterRim Creatives, and we’d really love for you to come find us this weekend.

We brought costumes, armor, props, and a whole lot of things we’ve spent way too many hours obsessing over.

Katie is the sewing, tailoring, fit, fabric, and finishing side of what we do. Todd handles armor, props, leather, 3D printing, paint, and weathering. Most of what you see at our booth has a little bit of both of us in it.

But honestly, one of our favorite parts of doing conventions is meeting people.

There’s something about Captain Harlock that has stayed with fans for generations.

He isn’t simply a space pirate. He’s a man who refuses to give up his freedom, even when the whole world has decided he should. You recognize him before he ever says a word: the massive black mantle, the red cape, the gold trim, and the skull-and-crossbones flying proudly against it all.

That unmistakable silhouette was where we started.

Katie Strength made every soft part of this costume, including the fitted suit, sleeves, high collar, cape, and shoulder mantle. That mantle had to be bold and dramatic without swallowing the rest of the costume, and she did a beautiful job getting the shape right.

Todd Welch made the holsters, handled the weathering, created the 3D pieces, and built the large skull. Those pieces added the weight, texture, and lived-in character that helped bring everything together.

This costume is a good example of how we work as a team. Katie builds the foundation and movement of the character. Todd creates the dimensional elements and finishes that give it history. We pass pieces back and forth, make adjustments, and keep going until it all feels like the same world.

We’re proud to have Captain Harlock standing in our Colorado studio.

If you’re a Harlock fan, tell us how you first found the Arcadia. Was it the original series, Arcadia of My Youth, a later adaptation, or something else?

Minthara may be dressed for camp, but she still looks ready to take command of it.

That’s what we love about this costume. It’s quieter than her armor, but it still carries her personality. The sharp silhouette, dark leather, purple trim, and painted gold details all feel controlled and dangerous. Very Minthara.

Katie patterned and sewed the garment, working through the fit and all those strong lines. Todd made the leather pieces and painted the details that give the costume its depth and character.

This build passed between them constantly. A change in the sewing affected the leather. The leather changed how the painted details needed to sit. Katie and Todd made those decisions together until the whole costume felt like it belonged to one person and one world.

It’s now finished and ready to leave our Colorado studio.

We’re excited to see our client step into Minthara’s camp and make the character her own.

The moment the lights came on, Quorra stepped off the Grid.

This build demanded a different kind of precision. The black costume needed to hold its shape and silhouette before a single light was added. Then every illuminated line had to follow the body cleanly without turning a wearable costume into a bundle of wires.

Katie Strength and Todd Welch each brought their part of the craft to this one. The tailoring, fit, fabrication, and lighting all had to work together. That’s what makes the finished costume feel like Quorra instead of a black outfit with blue lights attached.
