We’re taking you behind the seams of one of our most ambitious builds yet! 💫

In the latest Katie’s Korner blog post, Katie explores what it really means to translate a character like LODI from Destiny 2 — a world built from mythology, light, and pixels — into a costume that lives off the screen.

This is cosplay translation, not just replication — crafting armor that moves, breathes, and carries story when someone steps into it. Read about the design challenges, tailoring decisions, and creative philosophy that make OuterRim pieces something you feel the moment you put them on.

What does it take to turn a video game character into something that can move, breathe, and exist in the real world? For this Bungie Destiny project, OuterRim Creatives translated LODI from screen to reality through armor, tailoring, and story-first design.

Every OuterRim build begins the same way:
a conversation between story, structure, and movement.

For this project, that conversation needed to hold under studio lights, live broadcast conditions, and long hours of wear — without ever pulling focus from the people inside the work.

That’s where our creative partnership matters. Patterning, tailoring, fabrication, and armor integration aren’t separate steps for us — they’re interdependent decisions shaped together from the beginning.

Seeing these builds in use — comfortable, functional, and fully present in the environment they were designed for — is the clearest confirmation of that process.

We’re grateful to have brought that partnership into a universe we deeply respect.

More soon, including a detailed look at the build itself.

FALCO
Loyal to the mission. Not the rules.

Falco doesn’t wait for clearance.
He hits the throttle, talks trash over comms, and finishes the job before anyone else gets there.

He’s the pilot who breaks formation because he knows he’s faster. The one who mouths off, pulls impossible maneuvers, and somehow still saves the day. Falco flies on instinct, confidence, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. His jacket isn’t ceremonial — it’s a badge of attitude. You see it, and you already know how this is going to end.

Katie approached this build by leaning into Falco’s personality: bold without being bulky, sharp lines that feel aerodynamic even standing still, and iconic color blocking that reads instantly from any angle. This jacket isn’t polite. It’s decisive. Just like him.

At OuterRim Creatives, this is our sweet spot — translating character swagger into wearable reality. Not costumes that just look right… but pieces that feel right when you put them on.

Fly fast. Fly smart.
And don’t apologize for it.

We’ve been waiting for a while to share some big news.

At OuterRim Creatives, every build begins with story — and with the people who know how to listen for it.

Earlier this year, we collaborated with Bungie on a Destiny 2 project that we’re excited to finally share.

We were trusted to design and build five complete costumes of the character LODI, which were featured live on the Destiny 2: Equilibrium Dungeon – World First livestream, bringing Bungie’s world into physical form during a major launch moment.

The project was led by couture-level garment construction, patterning, and finishing, supported by integrated graphics and fully fabricated 3D armor — all developed through close collaboration and deep respect for the source material.

We’re grateful to Bungie for the trust, and proud of the care taken to honor their story through every stitch, surface, and silhouette.

This is the kind of work we exist for — where story comes first, and craft follows with intention.

We’re excited for what’s next.

THE SUPER BROTHERS
From Storybook to Suit-Up.

Every now and then, a project walks into our inbox that reminds us why we do what we do.

A deployed service member reached out months ago, sharing that he had been writing and illustrating superhero stories for his two boys — ages 5 and 3 — while he’s been away from home. The boys call themselves The Super Brothers, and all they wanted was a chance to wear the costumes their dad created in his drawings.

That’s where we came in.

Katie took the boys’ artwork and translated every line, color, and curve into real-world soft-goods: the lightning boots, the capes, the gloves, the masks… all stitched, patterned, and constructed by hand. Todd matched the shapes, symbols, and silhouettes to feel exactly like the illustrations — not generic capes, but their heroes brought to life.

And today… we finally get to share the finished builds.

Two tiny heroes.
Two fully custom costumes.
One deployed dad who wanted to give his boys something unforgettable.
And one very grateful creative team who got to help make that moment real.

THE ARMORER – FORGED IN FIRE. GROUNDED IN STORY.

In the Star Wars universe, the Armorer is more than a warrior —
she is the quiet force that shapes others into legend.
Every strike of her hammer carries purpose. Every silence, power.

Katie brought that same quiet mastery to life — every seam placed with intention, every contour shaped to honor the strength beneath the myth. Her eye for precision and authenticity gives the Armorer her soul.

Todd worked alongside her, crafting the details and 3D-printed components that anchor the build in cinematic realism.

Soon, the client will commission the remaining pieces to complete the ensemble for Rebel Legion certification — but today, the forge stands bright. This is the moment she stepped into the light.

This is what we build at OuterRim Creatives:
stories you can wear, myths you can touch.

Theatre is where it all started.

Long before OuterRim, before conventions and commissions, it was just the two of us backstage — covered in sawdust and fabric threads — trying to bring stories to life. That’s where we learned how to collaborate, how to dream big, and how to build something beautiful out of chaos.

Every design, every costume, every set begins with the same heartbeat: tell a story worth believing in. That world shaped us — the sawdust, the fabric, the laughter, the chaos — all of it taught us how to collaborate, how to teach, and how to bring imagination to life.

Working alongside the students and staff at Windsor High School for She Kills Monsters reminded us why we started doing this in the first place. Watching them design, paint, and perform with that wide-eyed creativity—it’s the purest kind of art.

We may build for film, stage, and convention floors now, but this is still home. This is where story meets mentorship. Where imagination becomes community.

This is why we do what we do.
Because long after the curtain falls, the art—and the people who create it—keep shining.

Bound by the Hunt

Some stories begin with a sketch from the customer’s imagination — a world, a warrior, a legend waiting to be worn.

This Witcher-inspired design was dreamed up by our client and brought to life through the hands and hearts of our team at OuterRim Creatives.

Katie Strength tailoring and leatherwork gave structure and soul to every panel and strap, while Todd Welch handled design translation, build planning, and finish work to ground the fantasy in reality.

What started as a fan concept became something tangible — a piece that carries the grit, balance, and mythology of The Witcher while standing completely on its own.
