When you are at the poultry show tomorrow make sure to stop by the club tables and talk to these very knowledgeable people.
At the Virginia 4-H table you will meet Shaiah Lerner from New Kent County. She’s been a 4-H’er for the past 5 years. She has learned and competed in shooting sports, poultry and sheep. She is Virginia 4-H’s Southeast District Ambassador and she’s also an Agvocate for Miss Agriculture USA. So bring all your 4-H questions.
4-H provides a large variety of educational learning opportunities and experiences. Leadership, citizenship, and life skills are taught through learn-by-doing projects, local club programs, and 4-H camps, as well as at county, district, state, and national events. It is for youth age 5-18.
At the Society for the Preservation of Poultry Antiquities table you will meet Barbara Rosholdt her organization was Founded in 1967 to protect and preserve the old and rare breeds of poultry through breeding, exhibition, and outreach.
The world’s desire for rapid development and over abundant egg laying has resulted in a severe loss of genetic diversity in our cherished poultry breeds. Without dedicated and passionate individuals preserving these genetic treasures, these breeds will surely be lost to time. The SPPA aims to protect, develop, exhibit, and preserve old and rare breeds of poultry for future generations
