This happens more than you realize and I can only speak for us…However, in our industry, we always get questioned from potential clients about why are the flowers and the centerpieces for weddings and events cost so much and why they are so expensive. And then we get the dreaded “Oh it will be cheaper if we Do It Ourselves” Well as I tell people…”We are professionals and we have been doing this for a long time…you can definitely do it yourself or “DIY” as I call it.…but beware of the potential pitfalls…”
1. Lack of Expertise – Arrangements may not look as polished or balanced compared to a professional florist’s work.
2. Time-Consuming – Designing, prepping, and arranging flowers can take hours or days, especially for weddings/events.
3. Stressful During Events – DIY brides or hosts often end up overwhelmed right before their big day, juggling flowers and event setup.
4. Limited Access to Wholesale Pricing – Buying flowers retail is more expensive than a florist’s wholesale supply.
5. Quality & Freshness Issues – DIYers may not know how to properly hydrate, store, and handle flowers, leading to wilted arrangements.
6. Logistics & Transportation – Transporting fragile arrangements without professional packaging can cause damage.
7. Hidden Costs – Vases, floral foam, tools, and supplies add up, sometimes costing more than hiring a florist.
8. No Backup Plan – If flowers die, break, or don’t arrive on time, DIYers often have no contingency plan.
What you think you might be saving in cost by doing it yourself may have you run into problems that you don’t think about. That’s why, depending on the situation, it’s always good to hire a professional to make sure that everything is done properly and that your vision is done to your expectations. Just something to think about.
