Lean with it.

Gotta say, the Leaning Tower is a little overrated. It’s pretty crowded and we were bored in about five minutes. However if you combine it with a trip to Lucca, about 20 minutes away by train, it makes for a pretty amazing day. Lucca is a beautiful city surrounded by a historical wall. The wall is about 100 feet wide and is great to walk on or even ride a bike on. And in the center of the city is a plaza that was built in the foundations of an old Roman amphitheater. There’s also a tower in the city with a few trees growing on the top of it. Definitely recommend checking that one out. Plus Lucca is nowhere near as crowded as the area around the Leaning Tower.

Bistecca alla fiorentina. A signature Tuscan dish and the most amazing piece of steak I have ever feasted on. They simply sear the outside of this masterpiece of a T-Bone. for a few minutes and sprinkle a little salt from the heavens on it. Served on a sizzling platter, this thing is succulent from start to finish. Even my kids that are not huge fans of steak continue to talk about how delicious it was.

Headed from Munich to Florence. Pictured are two interesting pieces of architecture. The first picture is of the Feldherrnhalle in Munich’s Odeonsplatz square. It is known for its resemblance to the building in the second picture, the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence. The Feldherrnhalle was build under King Ludwig I in the 1840s who was a great admirer of Italian art. It was pretty cool to see both these structures during our trip.

February 1, 1960.

Had a chance to visit the International Civil Rights Museum in Greensboro yesterday. Didn’t realize it was the 65th anniversary of the sit-in protests led by the “Greensboro Four” that also took place at this very location where the museum now stands. A poignant reminder of all those who fought that I may freely walk down these streets today, eat at any restaurant, visit any business, sleep at any hotel, and not fear for myself or my kids. The guided tour of this place is short, but extremely impactful. I highly recommend it for anyone.
