Mauvey bits form the garden in a just for fun arrangement in the studio with .case.photography 🤍 It was a chilly one this morning..lots of frost! I was talking to a grower last night about our climate here in Fresno and thought I’d share in case we have any fellow 9b’ers out there or someone else who is curious about our growing conditions: overall we have a dry, Mediterranean climate with some rain in the winter but not much. Our temperature swings are extreme, but we rarely did below 40 at night. That being said, the micro climate situation over here is wild. I have one row in my field that gets frost damage, but the row next to it is always fine 🤪 and my own backyard almost never has frost, even though it’s 4 miles from my field. We also have pockets of our county where fog will linger until 10-11am in the morning (I grew up with Foggy Day Schedule at school, instead of Snow Days!) It’s called Tule Fog and usually happens after a big rain. Today we’ll have a high of 60, and our lows will drop back into a more normal 45-55 degree range. I rarely need to cover anything for frost, but I do sometimes put plastic over certain things to try and get my season started earlier (ranunculus, anemones). By March we will swing from 60 degree days to 80s at times, and it’s just a matter of time before we hit 80-90 in April that pops ALL our ranunculus open and causes mass panic amongst us growers 🤣 The ranunculus fade away by May, and we can actually get some early summer flowers around that time if we kept them warm enough in seedling stage. Any other climate notes I’m missing? 🤔
