When old worksheets get an upgrade ✨

Same lesson, better look, and a format that makes the learning feel a little more intentional. I’ve been going back through some of my tried-and-true floral activities and giving them a fresh Cultivated Blooms makeover so they’re clearer, cuter, and easier for students to use.

Because sometimes we don’t need a brand-new lesson. We just need to give a good one a little glow-up. 🌸

Mum season survival kit. 💐✂️

Every floral teacher has those few things that become absolutely non-negotiable once homecoming mum season hits.

For me?

A flat iron.
A ridiculous amount of storage.
And individual student bags so I can keep everybody’s pieces from becoming one giant ribbon-filled crime scene. 😂

The flat iron is one of my favorite little mum tricks for getting ribbon looking neat and polished.

The tubs keep each class period separated.

And the paper bags?

Each student gets one for all of their unfinished pieces, cut ribbon, braids, names, trinkets, and all the tiny things that would otherwise disappear approximately 14 seconds after they set them down.

It is not glamorous.

It IS how we survive mum season with 100+ projects happening at once.

So floral teachers, tell me:

What is the one tool, supply, or organization trick you absolutely cannot survive homecoming season without?

Because I know somebody out there has a trick I need to steal. 😂

There is something really special about seeing your classroom through a student’s eyes.

These photos captured the things that can be easy to miss when you’re the one teaching: the concentration, the collaboration, the little moments of confidence, the questions, the laughter, and the point where a student suddenly realizes, “I can do this.”

This is the kind of floral education we believe in at Cultivated Blooms.

Hands-on. Immersive. Real.

Students were designing arrangements for actual Aerie Society members, working with fresh product, making design decisions, solving problems, and creating something that would leave the classroom and go into someone else’s hands.

Flowers are what brought them to the table, but the real lesson is so much bigger.

Sometimes you just have to see your class through a student’s eyes to remember how much learning is happening in the room.

Cultivated Blooms has been a little quiet lately…

But life definitely has not been. 🌸

This season has looked like watching teachers come to Cultivated Blooms from states away, creating and learning together.

It has looked like building a brand-new student-run floral shop and watching students make their first real deliveries.

And right now, it also looks like me staring at a back room full of tubs, shelving, equipment, and floral supplies saying, “Trust me, I have a vision.” 😂

I haven’t stepped away from Cultivated Blooms.

I’ve just been deep in the exact work that made me create it in the first place.

Teaching.
Building.
Creating.
Learning.
Helping students grow.
And figuring out how to make floral education work in real classrooms with real budgets, real messes, and real people.

So if things have seemed a little quiet around here, that’s why.

I’ve been busy blooming behind the scenes. 🤍

And I think it’s time I start taking y’all along for more of it again.

Floral safety does not have to mean handing students a list of rules and hoping they remember them.

These new Floral Safety Activities are designed to get students actually thinking through what safety looks like in a floral lab. They’ll practice:

• recognizing hazards
• making safe choices
• using tools correctly
• thinking through real classroom situations
• building confidence before they begin designing

Both activities were created with floral classrooms in mind and are meant to be practical, student-friendly, and easy to use.

Because before the beautiful designs come the basics, and safe hands make confident designers. 🌿

I’ve been working on something behind the scenes at Cultivated Blooms, and I think it may be turning into more than just a few worksheets. 🌸

My end goal is a complete Floral Design student notebook that teachers can print, spiral bind, and hand directly to students.

Instead of hunting down separate worksheets, notes, practice pages, and review activities all year, I want the book to already be built for you.

I’m creating pages for things like floral safety, color theory, elements and principles, ribbon, plant ID, design concepts, and the other skills we actually teach in a Floral Design classroom.

I want it to feel useful, student-friendly, visually engaging, and most importantly, realistic for an actual teacher to use.

Right now I’m still creating, testing, changing things, and figuring out exactly what belongs in it.

But I’m curious…

Would you be interested in a complete print-and-bind Floral Design notebook like this for your students?

One of my favorite little classroom systems is this pickup station right by the door.

My students grab their Plant ID page or bell ringer as they walk in, which keeps me from standing at the front handing out papers while 25 other things are happening at once.

I’ve been rebuilding my Plant ID pages this year so they’re more than just “memorize the name.” I want students looking for actual identification clues, noticing differences, sketching, and making connections that help the plant stick. 🌿

Simple system, but it makes the start of class so much smoother.

Sometimes blooming looks a lot like beginning again. 🌸

Cultivated Blooms has been a little quiet lately, but life certainly hasn’t been.

This summer filled my cup in ways I’m still processing. I traveled, taught, learned, designed, spent time surrounded by some of the most talented flower people, and found inspiration in places I had dreamed of visiting.

And then I came home and started building again.

A new classroom.
A new floral program.
A student-run flower shop.
New students.
New ideas.
And Year 16 of doing something I still genuinely love.

There have been beautiful flowers and beautiful moments, but there have also been boxes, piles, late nights, lesson plans, budgets, rearranging the same classroom corner 47 times 😂 and figuring things out as I go.

And maybe that’s exactly what Cultivated Blooms is supposed to be about.

Not just the finished arrangement.

The growing that happens along the way.

So no, Cultivated Blooms hasn’t gone anywhere. If anything, I think we’re entering a whole new season.

And I have a feeling there is a LOT we’re going to talk about. 🌿🌸
