Today is the first day of Pride Month.
Pride started as a riot. In June of 1969, the people at the Stonewall Inn in New York fought back against a police raid, and the protests that followed became the start of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. The right to marry, the right to be visible, the right to say "this is who I love" out loud, none of it was given. It was fought for by people who didn't always live to see it.
As an LGBTQIA+ business owner, this month means a lot to me. Two and a half years ago, I made the decision to offer officiation free of charge to q***r couples. In the past year alone, I've officiated for 18 couples. I love being on this side of love, witnessing these moments firsthand.
Last weekend, I had the honor of officiating for Dan and Matt, exchanging rings after 30 years together, in one of their sister's home, surrounded by all the love and color you can fill a home with. Thirty years of choosing each other.
All love deserves to be seen. All love deserves support. That's what Pride is about, and that's what last weekend was: thirty years of quiet, steady love.
It's about time😍
Happy Pride 🏳️🌈
