Keeping our eyes on this!

BREAKING🚨🏳️‍🌈 Three men screamed anti-trans slurs at her and knocked her to the ground. She pulled out a registered firearm. Did not fire. They ran. Wyoming charged HER with two felonies. The men who attacked her? Not charged with anything.

Her name is Rihanna Kelver. She is 28 years old. You may know her already: she is the same trans woman who walked into the Wyoming State Capitol women's restroom in July 2025, in front of reporters and a Highway Patrol officer, to protest Wyoming's new bathroom ban. She has been an activist in Laramie for years.

In September 2025, Kelver arrived at the Crow Bar and Grill in Laramie to begin her shift as a bartender. A man known in court records only as "S. Durham" was there with a group. He began shouting homophobic and transphobic slurs at Kelver as she approached. Then he walked up to her and shoved her to the ground hard enough to injure her tailbone.

Kelver reached into her bag and retrieved her legally owned firearm, which she is trained and licensed to carry. She chambered a round and aimed it at Durham. She kept the safety on. She did not fire. Durham and his associates immediately backed off and left.

Kelver was charged with two felonies: aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a deadly weapon. She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Durham has not been charged with anything.

Wyoming has a Stand Your Ground law. It explicitly says that a person who is legally present and facing a threat of serious bodily injury does not have to retreat before using force. Kelver's attorney argues her actions were squarely within that law. Surveillance footage from the bar shows Kelver being shoved to the ground, outnumbered, without provocation.

Albany County Circuit Court Judge Robert Sanford disagreed at the pretrial hearing, ruling there was probable cause to proceed. The case will go to trial.

Kelver put it plainly: "I did not go looking for confrontation."

The man who shoved her to the ground while screaming slurs is free. The woman who defended herself without pulling the trigger is facing 15 years.

This is not a grey area. This is the system telling a trans woman that Stand Your Ground does not apply to her.

Happy Did you know that Trinidad was once known as the "sex-change capital of the world"?

For more than forty years, “going to Trinidad” became slang for undergoing gender confirmation surgery, and this otherwise quiet and previously little-known Colorado town found itself on the map, not just in the United States but the world over.

This story begins with one man doing a service, an act of kindness that at the time was controversial and even dangerous, for a friend.

Read about Dr. Stanley Biber and his impact on the LGBT+ community and Trinidad at: https://www.historycolorado.org/story/2020/06/26/dr-stanley-biber

Biber's photo and some of his surgical equipment is included in the Borderlands of Southern Colorado: Remedios, Medicine and Health exhibit at Trinidad History Museum.

TO DO: Pride Cheyenne’s Street Fest isn’t beloved because it includes a parade with big floats; it's beloved because it’s maintained its goal over the past four years of being a free, self-sustaining event that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community in Cheyenne while raising awareness of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City, which is why Pride exists in the first place.
