To celebrate Women’s History Month and the Year of Women Farmers, I would like to say thank you. Thank you to all the fabulous women farmers across the Commonwealth and beyond.
Community. That’s what I’ve found being a grower of flowers here in Kentucky. I have met so many kind, generous folks happy to share their knowledge, offer assistance, pump you up when you’re down, celebrate your wins, like you’re silly photos, and just be a good friend. We might not speak every day, but I appreciate all of you.
I received this package of kindness from a fellow farmer and creator of beautiful things, Jessica . I wanted to go to a Seed and Plant Swap in Forkland she was participating in and she had posted about to grab some heirloom tomato and bean seed from Larry Phipps. Phipps is from eastern KY and has some seed varieties spanning generations grown here in KY. Very special heirloom seed. So when I had messaged Jessica that I wanted to come but couldn’t make it- without missing a beat, she kindly offered to grab me some of this special seed. Within just a couple days of the seed and plant swap, this beautiful package arrived in the mailbox. This is just one of many examples of the kindness I’ve found amongst new friends in this very welcoming community. Thank you, friend!
If you ever have a chance to visit Perryville, KY. Stop in and say hi to Jessica at her beautiful store on Merchants Row!
Women farmers rock!
