Please help spread the word.

I am trying to help as best as I can to bridge the gap between the younger and older veterans in our community.

I am proud to say I am part of another great veteran organization called "Team RWB". Team RWB’s mission is to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.

One of these activities is currently underway called the “Old Glory Relay”.

As the sun rose on September 11, 2018, Team RWB gathered in Boston and unfurl Old Glory for the fifth consecutive year. An epic journey will take that same flag through 24 states and 10,000 pairs of hands over 62 days, as veterans and supporters work together to bring the American flag to San Diego on Veterans Day.

The Old Glory Relay epitomizes what Team RWB is all about - helping America’s veterans find lasting fulfillment through the creation of deep bonds with other veterans and civilian supporters.

The Relay event is the perfect opportunity for the members of the American Legion Department Members and for all Americans can support. On Tuesday, October 2, 2018, “Old Glory Relay” will be here in the Metro Detroit Area. The relays will begin at 0700 in Hart Plaza in Detroit and following its way along a designated route to Tecumseh, Michigan. A span of about 74 miles taking roughly 12 hours! I am excited to say that I am participating in this relay.

If you are inclined, on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 on or about 1145am at “Levan Recreation Area, 35293 Edward N Hines Dr., Livonia, MI 48150. This is a designated Old Glory Relay exchange location. At this location, I am proud to say this is where you will personally see me carrying Old Glory and handing her off to the next group of Veterans to continue on her way.

I think it would be exciting to see members from all Veteran Organizations along the entire route and support this event. Can I count on you to come and support a great cause?

Thank you all for your consideration and support of the Veteran Community.

Sincerely,

Michael M. LaFave

Looking forward to getting to know these special ladies even more throughout the upcoming months. A special thank you to Marya Davis of the American Legion Post 346 for sponsoring a writing scholarship for interviewing a local Veteran.

Awesome to see Abe and Mary Lincoln marching in with the drumline to open today’s market. Thanks to them, to the students who participated, to American Legion Post 346 for providing the color guard, to Dave Catherman, who sang “America, the Beautiful”, and to all of the vendors and volunteers out on this hot, steamy day!
