It’s Washday. Out west. 💛

I was lucky enough to be able to go to the last Wednesday and stock up on local flowers for my nephew’s wedding reception. I took some videos of the market I’ll have to share with you soon! 15 flower farms all in one hub. It was so fun to see what is growing locally. My buckets were brimming with dahlias, Lisianthus, sedum, snowberries, zinnias, scabiosa, dill, Queen Anne, sweet Annie, plume celosia etc etc

My mom has a sweet little guest house that we are renting from her. She calls it “The Cottage” and it’s darling. This sink! Isn’t it perfect!? It’s meant for a little washday flower love. It made me so happy to put flowers in that sink.

And now I’m sitting on an airplane heading back to share so much flower love and seasonal shop overhaul with you!

It is going to be a very busy and very fun week. Remember that we are closed Wednesday and Thursday while we get the shop all dressed up for fall. 🎉 Hope you’ll join us at the party this weekend! 💛🥳

In one week from now I will be home to see all of your beautiful smiling faces!!

We are so excited to welcome you to the shop next weekend to celebrate 3 years of Schoolhouse/Washday! We will have flower bunches from 8 flower farms, our traditional chocolate chip cookies, this year baked by and the most darling little individual milks from Brooms Bloom .

The shop will be brimming with new inventory and beautiful art installs ushering in the new season.

Thank you for so much flower love this week! Buying all the flush sunnies from was a risk, but you all showed up as usual! We only have a few bunches left! A couple mixed and a couple plain sunflower bunches. I’ll try and get some more for next week too. We do have vase arrangements and our typical jam jars and salts ready to go too.

So many thoughtful ways to share flowers, it’s so fun to see how you spread kindness. 💛🌻🌷

Attention sunflower lovers! 🌻💛 🌻💛

For those of you that are new around here, one of the things Washday loves to do is support our local growers!

We buy from about 10 different local flower farms during the growing season. Occasionally we will get a text or email from a grower mentioning that they have a flush.

A flush is when a lot of flowers bloom at the same time and growers are faced with more flowers than they can handle. They need help!

Lucky you! That’s when we swoop in and help out by saying hey! We got you! And then we buy up some of the flush and share them with our lovely customers. We have helped multiple farms with with so many different flushes: ranunculus, tulips, and peonies along with pussywillow, dahlias, feverfew, daffodils etc etc.

And now we have a beautiful sunflower flush! These sunnies are coming to you from Third Way Farm in Havre de Grace. They will be delivered fresh cut today and available to pick up at the shop over the next few days.

We will have $15 bunches of just sunflowers and we will have larger mixed sunflower bouquets with other summer favorites for $35.

IMPORTANT: Please like/heart this post if you read this. Pretty please. Just need to be sure this information is getting out there, and the more likes, the more prominent we can be in our follower’s feeds.

What you need to know:

WE ARE OPEN AND OPERATING OUR NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS.

And YES! We have flowers every week. I am so sorry things have been confusing. The shop is still operating while I am away. We have a super capable design team and an awesome staff at both Washday Floral and .

We have had a handful of customers come into the shop, surprised we are open, or surprised we have flowers. l feel like maybe I wasn’t very clear. And I do think this is really affecting sales!

Gabby is our lead designer and she and Marsha/Mimi, have been with Washday for years now! They will be at the shop through the summer making all of your washday favorites until I get back at the end of August for our shop birthday. I am working remotely,ordering flowers and managing orders.

Last week and this week we have stocked the cooler, but the traffic just isn’t coming in. I understand summers are slow and people are traveling, I just have to pivot and rethink what we are doing if I can’t sell these pretty flowers.

Selling a perishable product is stressful! And I really don’t want to pass that stress on to anyone, I just feel like if we can’t sell flowers this week or next, we will have to push pause on flowers for the rest of August because I just can’t lose money every week 😔.

And we can look forward to our shop birthday bunches in September when I return??

Another thing that would be helpful is if anyone wants to be put on a list for buying bulk flowers at cost at the end of the week if we have surplus that haven’t been used in arrangements, that would be nice. Please message for details or to be added to the list…

Also, if you have any small events like showers, birthdays, parties, backyard or courthouse weddings in August get in touch with us and we would love to help! It helps us to balance out our workload and stay busy.
