Post 177 Memorial Day Weekend 2021

Because of the continued risk to members, staff, and guests posed by the pandemic, American Legion Fairfax Post 177 will not be hosting any events for Run to the Thunder or Riding to Remember this year. The Post’s Social Quarters has been and will continue to be open and operating in compliance with Commonwealth and local health department protocols. These protocols may mean that some guests will not be allowed to enter if the maximum capacity has already been reached.

Post 177 encourages all Legion family members to safely participate in local events in their own communities on Memorial Day weekend.

Good morning everyone! Today is the first Wednesday of the month which means we will hold our Executive Committee Meeting at 7:00pm. For those of you that remember Grady, we're asking for you to keep him and his wife Cindy in your prayers. He's been in the hospital for the last few weeks due to complications from a kidney transplant. He is a founding member and a former officer of this post. Though they moved to Fredericksburg some time ago, he is very much still a part of Post 177.

🚨🚨Ladies and Gentlemen,🚨🚨

Tonight is our General Membership meeting, which will begin at 7 pm. These meeting occur on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, at 7 pm. Since May of 2020 the post has hosted these meetings completely virtually on Zoom, or hybrid (Zoom/in-person).

Here are the details and how they have been since then: We as a post do not wish to email the details of the meetings preemptively to all members due to potentially incorrect contact information. Therefore, each month it is communicated that if you wish to attend virtually, to contact our Commander at his email, text or carrier pigeon to gain access to those details.

If in doubt when these meetings are held, ask the question on here or the members page, or go the calendar on our website.

Though the Executive Committee and Corporate Board business is discussed and acted upon by the officers of these entities, it is every members right to sit in and observe the goings-on. ExCom is the first Wednesday of each month, contact Jeff White for details; the Corporate Board meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 pm, and contact Gary Welschenbach about zoom details for those.

Dear Post 177 Comrades, My name is Warren Hunt. I live in Michigan, and am a life member of both the VVA (Chapter 35, Toledo, Ohio) and the VFW. I am also a retired active duty Army E-7, beginning with service in Vietnam in 68-69 with the First Infantry Division. In 2018 I published a memoir, “Reflections on the Vietnam War: A Fifty-Year Journey,” an overview of what the Vietnam Era looked like to me. It covers the span of time from when I was in high school, through my Army service in Nam, culminating with my attendance at the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. in 1982. The book is available at amazon.com in paperback as well as Kindle format. A link to my book’s website is attached here: www.facebook.com/rvw50. This memoir has been included by Bowling Green State University and Lourdes University as part of the reading list for their classes on the Vietnam War. In addition, it has received positive reviews from well-known literary publications, including Manhattan Book Review, Publishers Weekly/Book Life, and the VVA Veteran: Books in Review (Henry Zeybel). In April of 2018 an excerpt from my book appeared in a special commemorative issue of USA Today: “Echoes from Vietnam.” “Reflections on the Vietnam War: A Fifty-Year Journey” has been well-received by readers; including Vietnam veterans and their family members. Many non-veterans, especially younger people, have also found it enlightening as an aid to gaining a broader perspective on the Vietnam War era. I am now in the process of sharing my work with local veterans organizations; not to make money, but because I have been told I should share it by so many people who find it an inspiring and informative read. Best wishes to your post members for a safe and pleasant summer. Sincerely, Warren Hunt Vietnam 68-69
