Sitting on the front porch watching the last of the rain, drinking coffee trying to soothe a bit of a scratchy throat with this precious girl sitting in the swing with me, leaned against me offering her version of healing love. Sweetest of all sweet dogs. And a precious little hummingbird braving the human and dog on the porch to sip from the feeder!

This morning while I was at one of my Amish neighbors buying some cucumbers, I noticed a squirrel at their feeder. It was a fox squirrel!! She looks just like my boy. The girl told me she’s been there for a couple of years now and has litters of about 5-6 babies! Those neighbors are about 3 miles down the road, so too far to be my boy’s mate. But. I was so excited to see another one!

There’s a bit of a breeze blowing the tree tops around; Lightning bugs are rising as the sky moves from orangey coral to salmon pink with the sun gone beyond the horizon; Voices of my Amish neighbors sound out as they shut things down for the night, and their unhappy dogs cry because they’re fenced in; A car at the drag strip revs as it prepares to speed off; and in the distance a killdeer calls. On the porch I let it all wash over me while I sit in quiet contemplation.

Well. I got a news flash yesterday. The Amish tours that come through now talk about this farm. According to them, I sold everything but the house and grounds to my Amish neighbors. I did not know I did that! Things that make you go hmmm?

(The truth is, they work the farm. They don’t own it. I didn’t sell any of it. Think I should correct the tour drivers?)

I saw the picture of the cheesecake on my friend Sarah's page and wondering if you share recipes. When I get back to Ethridge some day, hope to visit your farm.
Would The Farm be a good place to hold a writing get-away for a weekend? I'm not seeing where there would be a place to spend the night, like a farm house of some kind, so I was just wondering.
