Deadheading!
The most necessary (and painful) part about growing flowers for weddings and events.
When I need a big flush of blooms for a specific wedding or event date, I’ll cut off flowers that are blooming too early so the plant can redirect its energy into the next round of buds (usually 7-10 days before my event).
Is it an exact science? Absolutely not.
Is there a lot of counting days, checking buds, staring at the weather forecast and whispering “not yet” to my dahlias? Absolutely.
Welcome to flower farming, where sometimes you have to cut the pretty flowers today to hopefully have the perfect flowers when you actually need them. 🌸
