In 2017, I started Hansang after learning about Dol tables and Korean first birthday traditions in Korea.
From the beginning, Hansang has been about more than simply creating a traditional look. Iโve always valued the unique beauty of Korean mother-of-pearl (Najeonchilgi), along with the quality and character of each piece used in our setups. Over the years, Iโve continued to bring those traditions together with the style and sensibility of today, creating a look that has become uniquely Hansang.
And Hansang has always been about more than just setting up a Dol table.
Over the years, Iโve been there in person for countless first birthdays, from preparing the Dol table and helping with family photos to Doljabi and all the special moments throughout the celebration. Through those experiences, Hansang has developed its own standard of thoughtful, attentive service.
Iโm incredibly grateful for the relationships Iโve built with so many families over the years. Week after week, Iโve had the privilege of meeting new babies and their families. Weekdays were spent preparing for upcoming events, and weekends were spent out at venues, working hands-on from beginning to end. It hasnโt always been easy, but seeing the babies each week and watching their families enjoy such a special day has made all of that hard work worthwhile.
At one first birthday, the babyโs parents made sure we had something to eat and said to me, โHansang is always the first one here and the last one to leave.โ That stayed with me. It meant so much to know that someone noticed the time and effort that goes on behind the scenes, beyond what you see on the Dol table.
Every week, Iโve also received kind words of thanks and handwritten cards from families. Reading those messages has made me think, time and again, Iโm so glad I chose to do this. Those moments have given me the energy to prepare for another week and head back out to the next celebration. ๐ฅน๐ซถ
One family at a time, one first birthday at a time, those years have added up. And now, Hansang is approaching its 10th year.
