If you think tipping has become out of control, you're not alone. “Tipflation” is invading more interactions in all kinds of places, from asking customers to tip at fast food self-serve kiosks, to being prompted when checking out at retailers where you rarely tipped before.

For wedding professionals, a tip means a job well done.
For your wedding and reception, consider leaving a tip for the:

BARTENDERS AT AN OPEN BAR when the alcohol is provided by them or you. You might be at a party or wedding reception with an open bar, which means you don't have to pay for drinks as the host is covering the cost. But a little extra for the bartender is always appreciated.

COORDINATOR. He or she has spent considerable time putting together your special day. Usually, the first to arrive and the last to leave, your coordinator and helpers would appreciate your tip for their services.

MAKE UP ARTIST. Making you look your best for your wedding day is their specialty. A token of your appreciation is always appreciated!

PHOTOGRAHER AND VIDEOGRAPHER. Much of their hard work will come after they've left when they edit and compile your portfolio. But they’ve been there from the start of your agreement taking those off and on-site pictures, so a tip on top of their regular rate is always appreciated.

AND OF COURSE, YOUR DJ! After your DJ does an exceptional job entertaining for your reception, keeping your family and guests informed and entertained and getting people to the dance floor, at the close of the night he or she will always appreciate your monetary thank you.

How much should you tip? Tips vary for wedding professionals, with an extra 10 to 20% of the amount you paid for their services is polite. A $20 or $50 or $100.00 bill is typical.

DON'T TIP THESE PEOPLE!

If you think tipping has become out of control, you're not alone. Tipflation is invading more interactions in all kinds of places, from asking customers to tip at fast food self-serve kiosks, to being prompted when checking out at retailers where you rarely tipped before.

Deciding when tipping is necessary has become stressful, especially now that most people are looking for ways to lower financial stress and save money instead.

IT'S A GOOD PRACTICE TO TIP SOME WORKERS, but don't feel guilty about skipping a tip for the following:

1: ANYONE WHERE THE TIP IS ALREADY INCLUDED IN THE FINAL BILL.

Some businesses may automatically add a 20% tip for waitstaff, especially for large parties. Some may note that parties of six or more receive an automatic gratuity that is already added to your bill.

It may be a nice gesture to add a tip for extraordinary service or if you want to include a little extra, but you don't have to tip on top of one that is already included, especially if you're looking to stretch your restaurant budget.

2: CASHIERS WHEN YOU PICK UP TAKE OUT OR THROUGH THE DRIVETHROUGH WINDOW.

Ordering takeout from your favorite restaurant? You probably want to tip your delivery driver if you choose to have food dropped off at your house. But you don't have to tip if you're doing the work picking up the food YOURSELF!

3: BARTENDERS AT AN OPEN BAR.

You might be at a party or wedding reception with an open bar, which means you don't have to pay for drinks as the host is covering the cost. The host is also probably covering the cost of the tip for open-bar service, so while there may be a tip jar on the bar, you don't have to tip the bartender because at the end of the night when the couple's account is settled, a tip will be included in the final amount calculated paid by the couple.

DO TIP THESE PEOPLE:

Your Coordinator. He or she has spent considerable time putting together your special day.
Your Photographer and Videographer. Much of their hard work will come after they've left when they edit and compile your portfolio.
And of course, your DJ! The money you've paid him or her may not be the net amount that they will earn. Many DJs work for other companies or referral services and are responsible for payouts to their employers. Plus, there are other factors to consider as well. Any special music purchased for your wedding and reception, insurance costs, travel time and set up. While you may believe these are covered in your quoted fee for services, many times these come out of pocket to the DJ and he or she winds up getting much less that you'd expect.

IF YOUR DJ DID AN EXCEPTIONAL JOB entertaining for your wedding reception, DO tip at least 10% to 20% for his or her performance.

Also, when you do tip, DO NOT TIP for the grand total.

Look for the sub-total to calculate your tip, before the taxes included on your final ticket.

For example, if your restaurant bill was $200.00 but included $16.00 dollars in taxes and a possible credit card fee of $4.00, you would tip on the subtotal of $180.00. Also don't always go on the recommended tip at the bottom of many receipts. These are generally calculated (on purpose) after taxes and other fees have been added!

It's simple math. Look at the subtotal and move the decimal one number to the LEFT to determine the minimum tip expected for your meal service. In this example, one decimal moved to the left of $180.00 would be $18.00. Then if you believe your servicer was exceptional, double this to $36.00.

BOTTOM LINE
Tipping may be good etiquette in some circumstances and required in others, but you don't always have to tip whenever you're asked.

One of the many things we can be thankful for here in November is LOVE. November is a popular month to become engaged!

After the question is popped about if you will take this person to be your lawfully wedded spouse future couples begin to plan their wedding almost immediately!

Other than family and friends to share the great news of your impending nuptials, who else are you going to call?

Well according to my website, usually it's the following:
Venue, Catering, and Rentals
The Jewelry store
Photography and Video
The dress shop, the tuxedo rental store, attire and accessories
THE DJ!
Planning and consulting
Floral Decorations
Invitations
Gifts and Favors and
Beauty and Spa!

With more than 2 million people getting married every year, the West Texas average is about $14,000.00 dollars. Austin and San Antonio spend just over $27,000. And down on the coast, including Houston and Galveston, couples are spending upwards to the national average of $33,000! Florida, Hawaii and New York couples spend double that. Your budget may be less or more, but among all the couples we surveyed, many agree that they want the most value for the dollars they spend.

When planning your wedding, keep these tips in mind:

SAVINGS IDEAS

The peak months for weddings are April, May, and June.
On a tight budget? Save money when you consider scheduling your wedding during the off-peak months.
Don’t space it out. Your reception should follow your ceremony.
Look for venues that offer all-inclusive packages ie linens, food, tables and chairs rather than renting separately
Saturday is the most popular day of the week for weddings. Consider a Friday or Sunday wedding, many times venues will give you a price break for these days.
Plan your guest list carefully, remember each person you invite adds up!

And our #1 piece of Savings advice is: BOOK EARLY. BOOK NOW. DON’T WAIT!

My November special saves you 25% on future 2026 wedding and reception reservations. This could save you from 250 to 325 dollars!

For reservation information, see my website! Check to see if your date is still available at https://texasbestdjs.com/weddings.php .

Couples have asked me if they need to hire a separate Emcee for the reception. For me, that answer is NO, I will be your Emcee and DJ for the evening.

This question should always be asked. You might be surprised at your wedding when you find out that the DJ has no oratory skills.

A wedding is a whirlwind of emotions, moments, and memories, and keeping it all flowing smoothly requires more than just a great playlist.

Enter the emcee—a pivotal figure who guides the event, sets the tone, and ensures every moment shines.

Not all DJs can emcee, which then may require the couple to pay for an additional person to announce the events.

This is not an issue with Texas Best DJS. I offer the professionalism of an experienced disc jockey combined with the oratory expertise of a seasoned emcee. Meaning with my services as your wedding DJ, you’ll also get the services of an Emcee that will keep your guests informed and entertained throughout the evening.
