This was a special one. From the beginning, Carley was the kind of bride planners dream about: decisive, thoughtful, and incredibly prepared. A color-coded binder that rivaled mine. Detailed checklists with graphs & perfectly placed visuals.
But on the wedding morning?
Not a single checklist in sight. Just Carley, relaxed and laughing with her girls while getting ready. I’m telling you, she’s really a planner’s dream.
Ten minutes before ceremony time, the Colorado weather acted like Colorado weather. A massive thunderstorm rolled in.
And when we asked what mattered most, her answer was simple:
marrying Josh.
So we pivoted.
Groomsmen piled into the beds of our trucks, the bride and bridesmaids tucked safely into cars, and we made the quick trip down the road to the ceremony site. Damp chairs were quickly cleared away and guests gathered close, standing together as the storm rolled in around us.
What followed was one of the most intimate ceremonies we’ve ever witnessed.
Guests circled around them, close enough to hear every word of their vows. There was laughter, tears, and the kind of quiet that gives you goosebumps. We knew we were witnessing something special.
By the end, their people surrounded them with prayers and sent them into their next chapter together.
Not everything went according to the original plan.
But the result was something even better:
a ceremony that felt intentional, present, and deeply personal.
The reception kicked off with the most energetic surprise round of Thunderstruck. That set the tone for the rest of the evening.
From there the night unfolded exactly the way the best celebrations do:
family dance circles
margaritas being cheers-ed on the dance floor
the kind of laughter you only share with camp friends you’ve known forever
dancing dinos
and decades old stories shared around the fire pit
A perfect balance of honoring the past and celebrating everything still ahead.
