How to make a button feel and look more secure. Excuse my slow and super technical dialogue (wobbly is the technical term for what was wrong with the button 😆.)

Rim of the World School District band students are VIP and get their pants hemmed for $20 as long as I have time to fit them in!

It is time consuming to pin, press, and hand-sew the invisible stitch for the hem (especially black thread on black fabric), but I want to support music education whenever possible. 🤗

Regular price for tux pants to be hemmed with no lining: $30
Hem tux pants with lining $40

Rush fee (less than 2 weeks): add $10

I specialize in wedding gown alterations, but have been working on all sorts of dresses, tuxedos, and uniforms since moving the sewing workshop to my house in December 2018 👍

Look at this vintage silk haute couture gown. I am about to do some restoration. It is made in Paris with very fine silk! Chiffon, English netting, thin satin, lace… all silk.

I think it was made in the 80’s but not sure. I’ll know more when I meet the client. The gown was $7,500 back then, and the “tap pants” AKA thong panty 😆 was $500! The panty has the cutest details though. Little button on the back. Reminds me of some La Perla pieces from the early 2000s.

I will press and steam all the tiny flowers and layers of skirts and do a few repairs and spot cleaning.

I’ll share “after” photos by Monday 👌

My bride wanted a custom tie made for her fiancé, using the remnants from her absolutely gorgeous designer gown. She wanted to give him a unique, custom gift. 💝

With impeccable taste and a seamstress herself, she had a clear vision and I wanted to be sure to match that vision.

I asked the bride to design the beginning placements of French lace on a tie for me to use and I went from there.

I used raw silk for the main fabric, soft stretch satin for the lining, and a layer of English netting on top, which made the tie the exact color as her gown. The dress itself has 5 layers of white French lace, then organza, then tulle, then 2 satin layers on the very bottom, while the bolero was lined with English netting and made completely out of French lace.

I have over 25 years of French lace remnants and could not find any that were as thin and soft as hers ❤️ so using every single remnant cut from altering her hem and the bolero was critical.

This was a very fun challenge! Ties are bias-cut, so a little more complicated to cut and sew. Also, her gown’s layered fabrics are all slippery, moving easily when you try to sew a straight line. I failed at my first 3 attempts.

I spent a total of 6 hours cutting and placing the appliqués onto a layer of tulle, and another 6 very carefully and slowly sewing (and pressing every single step) until reaching the beautiful final product 👌

It’s all about the details.

Peek-a-boo snaps to hold edges of cathedral length veil on cathedral length train.

Snap piece on the train is hidden under a bit of floral beaded lace.
Snap piece on the under side of veil is hidden under a crystal rhinestone.

Ta-da! Cute and functional.

I worked with Sondra on a few of these pieces several years ago… she designs them for clients based on the client’s ideas, and her creative process is mesmerizing.

Check out her etsy shop for pics of recent work. We are collaborating on a few pieces that will be offered as “ready to ship.” These include linens, pillows, chairs, and small items.

I’ll share pics of my works in progress next week 🫶
