Today Thyme & Details turns 5! 🎂 🥂

Five years ago today I was sitting on the front porch, finally registering an LLC for my very own event planning company. Something I’d dreamed of since I can remember.

I had not imagined this venture would turn into what it has. The 2011 Dana would be so proud of the countless hours and grit that brought me to today. There’s no way I would have made it to this day without the endless support of my husband, family, friends, couples, and incredible team 🫶🏻 Thank you 🙏🏻

There’s so much to say but instead of rambling too much, enjoy this collection of old photos and a nostalgic song from Father of the Bride — a piece of inspiration that started this whole journey ✨

Some photos are from my first solo wedding in 2013 (before, after, during) at Dawes Arboretum 🌳 Others are from the first weddings I helped other vendors at as early as 2009. Oh how times and trends have changed since ‘09 😆

On this sunny Friday after a busy few weeks, I’m feeling so ready for wedding season ☀️ I love love and celebration and find myself missing wedding weekends this time of year.

I’m spoiled to witness so many core memories being created in peoples’ lives through weddings. It’s a special feeling that isn’t taken for granted. I’m looking forward to all the memories that will be made this year, in Columbus and other places in the US 🏝️ 🚙

I 🦋 winter weddings

There is beauty to be found in every season but I could argue winter is the best season to host a wedding.

Winter weddings generally have higher turnout, as there are few events happening in guests’ lives this time of year and people get excited!

Planning is generally more enjoyable as there’s greater availability of vendors and less pressure / rush to book book book. Oftentimes we see reduced venue rental costs, as well.

Lighting for photos is excellent. I’m no photographer, but from our past experiences it has been top notch.

The magic of snow, twinkling lights, and the crispness of winter air brings VIBES. And we’re all about the vibes ✨

Sure, there’s a chance for snowstorms and ice, but there’s also a chance for insane wind and storms in the spring and summer. You wouldn’t know it from these photos but Izzy & Jad had a snowstorm the morning of their wedding. It made the roads tough, but made the day all the more magical.

Gracie & Max ✨ Planning along side you and your family brought me joy. Your day was full of sentimental moments, laughter, and good vibes. It’s really what dreams are made of.

The food at was just the cherry on top of the end of a beautiful journey. I’m still thinking about those brisket in a blanket hors d’oeuvres 😋 They can live on rent free in my mind, gladly!

With that, I’ll be ✌🏼out for some personal time off starting tomorrow AM to spend some quality time with my husband for his birthday before work gets crazy again and to celebrate our 5th anniversary!!

Clients have been notified and prepped, OOO set, and just a few more meetings today before laptop gets shut until 1/27! So excited!

An often overlooked part of wedding days is getting dressed. Who do you want present - and who do you NOT want present? Set those expectations for who you expect to be in the room in advance and your photographer (or planner if applicable) can ask everyone else to give you privacy. This way you don’t feel awkward about it day of and can relax while your VIPs help you get in your gown, snap on your necklace, and get your shoes on. You won’t be able to do this yourself 🤍

January is considered the “off season” but last year it was one of our busiest preparing for February and March weddings. If you’re a winter or early spring couple WE SEE YOU and you’re going through the motions right now! Definitely give this moment of your day some thought and add your requests to your timeline.
