That’s a wrap on peony season here in Missouri! Thank you to everyone that followed along and share in a passion for peonies! I love meeting you guys, and so many were buying for their moms, friends and neighbors. We had a wedding arrangement and a book club, restaurant tables, and teacher gifts, and my favorite… for no reason at all. 🥰
❄️ For the nerds… This was a hard year for peony crops. We had a warm spring that got blooms starting early and then the usual late season freeze caused “bud blast” stunting the early buds. Because I’m new and don’t know what I’m doing, I thought it was a bug that got my whole coral crop and several other early varieties. I’m hearing growers across the warmer states have lost anywhere from 20-85% of their peony crops. Sarah Bernhardt is patient though, and shined this season (first pic).
🔮As we start planning next year’s peony season, I’m thinking about how to change up my offerings, more mixed wrapped bouquets, more long stems and saving the mason jars for the younger smaller peonies and other spring blooms as I introduce more varieties on the farm.
🌻 Summer! I know I keep teasing about a farm stand. It will probably get down to the road later in June as we move into summer annuals. I wasn’t planning on doing anything other than peonies, so we are experimenting this year with grown and foraged market bouquets and other fun goodies in the stand. But of course I’ve been squirreling away lots of peonies in the cooler to include in the bouquets to stay on brand. 😉
📝 I would love to get feedback, thoughts, reviews, pictures or anything that would be helpful!
💕 Thanks again for a fun year two at Old Plank Peony Farm!
