Single Review: Tummyache's "In Between"
Hear the first single “In Between” from Soren Bryce’s new project Tummyache (out now via Poor Man Records) 🌿 “Layered over a trance-like and dissociative soundscape, the lyrics of ‘In Between’ offer a catharsis akin to brushing a bruise to see how much it still hurts.” Read more of Niab’s review on the blog & check out the song/video⚡️
Keeping things short and bittersweet on the new single “In Between”, Soren Bryce’s new project Tummyache shows a further maturation of her sound. More dimensional than we’ve heard it before, this track in particular highlights a new depth in Bryce’s voice.

Imogen Heap: Mycelia World Tour
New concert review up on the blog about Imogen Heap’s Mycelia World Tour! (Although it reads more like a personal essay about how much Imogen’s music means to Ava) 🤟🏼👩🏻🎤💻💫🍄 “Throughout her career, Imogen Heap has not only been an ingenious performer, producer, and songwriter, but also a conduit for transcendence. When attending the shows, something inside of me stirred. Being able to witness her work come to life was absolutely unreal. Heap (and Sigsworth) have created some of the most breathtaking music I’ve ever heard, and seeing these compositions reproduced by human performers still seemed as though by some form of magic.”

“Quick question: are you feeling that oh so constant desire to beat the air in your room to a bloody pulp this afternoon? If so, I’d love to suggest that you listen to ’s latest single, “Heavy Heavy” as you do so. The latest single from our favorite cheerleaders is a bloodcurdling slow burn that seems to find a way to keep turning the intensity dial higher and higher, hearing damage be damned.” 〰️Read the rest of ’s review on noboysallowed.blog 💗 ✺◟( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)◞✺

Meet Jules Hale! As the frontperson of her band, Den-Mate, this D.C.-based musician creates pop melodies layered in comforting and dark undertones. Her sound stands out in the scene of traditional pop and indie music, where she allows its’ experimental elements to offer a unique listening experience. We’re so excited to have her play a solo set at our first No Boys event!

05/24/2019
Meet Bluish! They’re an up-and-coming New York-based band that creates soft and catchy melodies, with confessional lyrics based in personal experiences. The band consists of four members: Iris Garrison-Driscoll (lead singer and lyricist), Alex Hardwood (lead guitar), Aidan Boardman (bass and vocals) and Cara Conaway (drums). Having already released two singles, “Two Truths” and “Standby” on bandcamp and Spotify, they’re also gearing up to put out their first EP this summer. With songs that are sprinkled in sweetness, desire and excitement, Bluish’s refreshing sound alludes to promising future releases. We can’t wait to hear what comes next!

05/23/2019
Meet Hannah Epperson! She is a New York-based violinist/songwriter/composer with an exceptional ear for anomalous and catchy melodies. Perhaps even more fascinating than her intricate cyclical loops is the fact that her albums are written through the lenses of two alternate identities, Amelia and Iris. One more pop-y and electronic and the other more orchestral and acoustic. Read more about what we think about Hannah in our recent post ‘The Musical Duality of Hannah Epperson.’ In ’s words, “she is not singular in her voice, in her production, or even emotion, rather she is a complex creature; a hive of cells and organs, capable of espousing two disparate sounds, simultaneous yet separate.” We’re beyond honored to have her performing at our first ever No Boys event and hope you make it out to experience her magic.

Meet Blush Face! They’re a Richmond band that delivers dulcet indie rock with solid pop sensibilities and lyrics you’ll never stop singing in your head. The band is made up of Allie Smith (vocals/guitar), Drew Barnocky (drums), Evan Hoffman (guitar), and Billy Bacci (bass). Having released their first album on Trrrash Records (formerly Bad Grrrl Records), the band is now gearing up for another exciting new release. With songs about the complexities of romance and swallowing hard truths, Blush Face still maintains an effortless effervescence. 🦈

Meet Girl IRL (aka Emily Perlman) who usually goes by girl_irl or SoundCloud name Trickycola. She is a producer, DJ, and photographer based out of ATL and NYC. Heavily involved with PC music and the Paul Institute and having done sets at events such as the Atlanta’s q***r club dance party Bazaar, girl_irl effortlessly blends futuristic sounds with modern day club classics. Referred to lovingly as “Future Futch”, her brand and warm persona help to make any and everybody feel right at home and any event a party.

05/20/2019
Meet DJ Meeshka (aka Michelle Kim)! She’s one of the coolest people we know and has some of the best music taste on this earth. You may recognize her from the Official Michelle Kim Fan Club or from her writing as a staff writer at Pitchfork. In her free time, Michelle likes to dance, cook incredible meals, watch YouTube, and make digital zines. Catch her debut DJ set at the No Boys Shebang on May 26 in DC!

Union Stage
Hi I got a chance to talk with some of the organizers of this year’s Wxmen F**k S**t Up event at Union Stage 💥
"We really wanted people that have something to say and deserve the space to say it and have been historically oppressed. It’s been really hard and there are so many talented folks – even just in DC there’s so much talent. But finding those powerful voices that deserve to be heard has been a challenge. We tried to be transparent and honest."
