Fridays are for flowers~~ > Krinkled White Peony

Botanical Name: Paeonia lacticlora

Seasonality: In MN the first peonies open in late May and will continue to bloom throughout the month of June.

Vase Life and Care: 5-7 days. Harvest during “soft marshmallow” stage. Cut stems at an angle and use cool, clean water with floral food. If you’d like to extend your peony season, cut at “soft marshmallow” stage, wrap stems in newspaper and “dry store” them in the refrigerator. When ready to use. Unwrap them, recut stems and place in water. Peonies can be effectively dry stored for several weeks, giving you peonies into July!

Fun Fact: “Krinkled White” was introduced in 1928 and remains popular because of its unusual crepe-paper-like petals.

Symbolism: Romance, good fortune and honor 🤍

Botanical Name: Matthiola Incana, honors the Italian botanist Pietro Andrea Matthiola, a 16th-century physician who studied medicinal plants. The word “incana” means gray or hoary, referring to the plant’s soft gray-green leaves.

Seasonality: Available year round but grows best in cool spring and early summer conditions

Vase Life and Care: 7-10 days. Cut stems at an angle changing water often and discarding any decaying stems.
