Setting up to get that shot

A few weeks ago, I was asked if I could photograph Miss Doris and her family once she came home from the hospital.

Sadly, that day never came.

Instead, her family reached back out and entrusted me with something completely different — documenting the day they celebrated her life and laid her to rest.

I learned about a woman who was a wife, mother, educator, woman of faith, and deeply loved by a family and community whose roots stretched all the way back to Mississippi. I listened to stories about her while standing behind my camera, and more than once I found myself photographing through tears.

There are moments when photography isn’t about creating the perfect image.

It’s about preserving the people who came. The embraces. The quiet looks. The laughter at the repast. The family standing together. The final journey behind a horse-drawn carriage. The little moments that may mean even more years from now than they do today.

Thank you, Irenette and family, for trusting me to document such a personal chapter in your family’s story.

Rest in Heaven, Miss Doris. 🕊️

She told me she wasn’t really a picture person… then THIS happened. 💜💚✨📸

Happy 55th Birthday, Nikki!

When Nikki booked me, we talked about doing a little photoshoot before her celebration started. No outfit changes. No complicated production. Just give me a little time before the guests arrive and trust me.

Nikki showed up READY — and apparently she told everybody else to come photo-ready too. 😂

What followed was beautiful. Gorgeous women, beautiful energy, plenty of D9 love, friendships, laughter, mini photoshoots, group portraits — and we even took the celebration to the sky. 🚁

Thank you, Nikki, for trusting me to document your 55th and for giving me room to create, not just photograph.

And to everybody who stepped in front of my camera — y’all understood the assignment. 🔥

Family and friends came together to celebrate Yvette’s 70th with a surprise filled with love, laughter and memories. I had the opportunity to capture the moment from the anticipation all the way through the celebration.

You bring the inspiration. I’ll help create the shot

You don’t have to know how to pose. You just have to show up. 💕

A lot of expecting moms want beautiful maternity photos, but the first questions are always: What do I wear? Where do I put my hands? How do I stand? Is this location going to look good?

That’s where I come in.

I’ll help with the vision, direct the pose, find the angle and turn what we actually have in front of us into something worth remembering.

This started with a camera, some pink fabric, a lakeside location and a little direction… then we created this. 🌸

Another incredible evening at the 2nd Annual Hair Ball!

Congratulations to everyone who helped make this year’s event such a success. It was amazing to see the community come together for an evening of beauty, creativity, entertainment, and fellowship.

A special shout-out to Bubba J’s Catering, who kept the crowd fed all evening. From the first plate to the last, LaWanda’s legacy of great food and serving people continues to live on through an incredible team. Every plate that came across that serving line looked as good as it tasted.

It was also great seeing so many familiar faces and making new connections throughout the evening. One of the highlights for me was reconnecting with someone from my East Cleveland days—proof that you never know who you’ll run into when you’re out documenting great events.

Thank you for allowing me to capture a small piece of a memorable night. Here’s a quick recap of the atmosphere, the people, and the moments that made this year’s Hair Ball another success.
