Clutter is subjective. What constitutes clutter can mean something different to each of us. Whether you lean towards minimalist or maximalist, or somewhere in between, there's no "right" amount of clutter.

What matters is that your space and your systems support you and the life you desire. The amount of clutter you're comfortable with can change over time and over circumstance.

If you're searching for your clutter comfort level, here are some questions that may help guide you:

- Are you constantly stepping over stuff?
- Are the drawers too full to put things away?
- Do you have trouble finding things you need quickly?
- Do cluttered spaces cause friction or arguments with others who share the space?
- Do you and others have a place to sit down without moving stuff?
- Are there overwhelming piles of paper everywhere?

The team at Hop To It Organizers is here to help you bring calm to your space. Schedule a free assessment call to get started:

New home? Make it work for you from day one. If you packed by zones, making this happen is even easier! Concentrate on unpacking the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms first.

Kitchen
- Focus on function. Put away your everyday dishes, glasses, and silverware. A basic set of cookware to prepare easy meals in the first few days
- Prep knives
- Paper towels and cleaning supplies

Bedroom
- Make beds first
- Everyday clothes
- Nightstand essentials

Bathrooms
- Towels, soap, and shampoo
- Medications
- First aid

If you have pets, set up their space for sleeping, eating, and general care.

Unpacking can take a while, but if you have your essential rooms functional first, it makes unpacking everything else go smoother.

Moving into a new space usually takes a few tweaks and adjustments, so keep that in mind as you unpack. Your focus should be on accessibility and function. You find that you'll refine your systems as you live in the space.

Moving Boxes - Determine a space to put empty moving boxes and packing materials away from high traffic areas. Break down boxes and bag or box up materials to keep them tidy.

Moving season tip: declutter before you pack - it saves money, cuts stress, and stops you from bringing unnecessary stuff to your new place. Here are quick ways to make it easier:

📦️ Tackle one room at a time so decluttering feels manageable.
📦️ Sort into keep / donate / sell / trash - be ruthless with things you haven’t used in a year.
📦️ Sell or donate bulky items to lower moving costs and make packing lighter.
📦️ Measure doorways and rooms so you only move furniture that actually fits.
📦️ Pack an essentials box (first-night items) and label boxes clearly.
📦️ Recycle electronics and dispose of hazardous items responsibly.

Clutter Crush is a free weekly virtual meet-up held every Friday from 11:00a to 12:00p EST. Created by Peggy Roache of The Wellness Scoop, the program features support from professional organizer Michelle Rosen of Hop To It Organizers, LLC to help participants tackle decluttering projects.

- Community Support: Participants "declutter together" via Zoom to build motivation.
- Accessible Format: The meet-ups are designed to be flexible and encouraging
- Goal-Oriented: The initiative is part of a larger focus on living a "clutter-free" life

This initiative combines physical decluttering with a wellness approach, fostering a calmer, more intentional living space.
