Here is the upper show garden at Mast Young Plants in Grand Rapids MI. The great guy I talk to is in the peach shirt. I asked him why do many growers are in Michigan where they have to run so much heat all winter. He said that the Dutch came over and settled in Michigan, and they were prone to flower growing from the old country. You can imagine him being Dutch, can't you? He is.

I've been working on the sorting/decision making process of ordering ever since.

This is where you wish you had an abundance of customers so you could buy 50 of everything! Haha.

Last week was such a highlight as Jon chauffeured me around to six gardens full of rich color and gorgeous blooms on the Michigan Garden Tour. These pictures are from the grower that I call the 'bread and butter', 'blue collar' company. These are their pots in their lower show garden. They line up their pots with flower varieties of all the flowers they offer. There is an upper area with hanging baskets and flower beds full of so many different flowers. More pics of that to come. You will see why ordering can be a dilemma of sorts. There's just TOO much to love!!
I have been there three times, and every time I am there, I get to talk to the humble guy in charge of the operations. He is always ready to chat and answer questions. This year, we got to hear his history in the greenhouse business. He came from a greenhouse family, went to college in horticulture, and afterwards, joined Mast Young Plants and learned the trade from the Mast family in Grand Rapids, MI.
It's always inspiring!
You should see these pictures on a big computer screen!

The Painted Earth Flowers greenhouse season rushed by and here we are at the close of the greenhouse for 2026.

Thanks to all who made the effort to come to the farm and find some beautiful flowers to make your own. I hope you are enjoying the uplift and peace a blooming flower can bring. The Creator put the first humans in a garden after all. That should be a good hint for us!

Lisianthus bouquets. Lots of them. If you keep the water level in the vase, lisianthus can last for at least 10 days. Gotta love THAT!

For a gardener who has plants in the ground, there's nothing like the sound of the rain in the night. The best kind of watering there is.
It also makes you want to stay in bed just a little longer on the morning...
But, I'll be ready for anyone that wants to come to the cut flower class this morning at 10am.
$10 each.. gets you the class and a free flower to give your cut flower garden a boost.
Mothers can bring a child for that price, too.

The Wednesday cut flower class was enjoyable. Two sisters that grew up with a mom who loved flowers, a mother and young daughter came, (gotta love girls who love flowers) and a friend from growing up in the same neighborhood came. They were all nice to have and had good comments and questions. I said that I would learn something from the two sisters, and I did. A DIY recipe to keep flowers fresh in the vase for longer. It's made of lemon juice (citric acid) sugar and a bit of bleach. Have to give it a try for sure!

Tomorrow morning at 10am, we'll have another go around with a cut flower class. Feel free to come and join us.

Here's my cut flower garden in process. Granddaughter McKinlee has bee such a great help in getting the greenhouse emptied into the garden! It's going to be fun to look out the window at these beds in full bloom (not counting the times it is not in full bloom because I have harvest the blooms.
