Why is eating Locally Produced Farm Fresh Produce so Important?

We all know that eating fruits and veggies is important to our health, but why does it matter if the produce comes from a local farm vs shipped from somewhere else?

At a time when we are surrounded daily by viruses, toxins, smoke, etc, it is of utmost importance that we begin to move back to our roots of eating real food.

The downsides of getting our produce from the grocery store instead of a local farm are many. For starters, produce found at the grocery store is usually not local. When foods are grown, they adapt to the environment around them, and then when we eat them, they help us to adapt to the environment THEY were grown in. If we are in the environment that they were grown in (aka local produce) then they help us to thrive where we live. But if they were grown somewhere else then they help us adapt to an environment we are not currently located in.

For example: if we are eating pineapples and mangoes from Hawaii, but living in a cold climate, those foods are helping us to stay cool and acclimate to hot weather. Which does not help you if it’s 45 degrees where you live.

Likewise if you are eating tomatoes in January, that “tomato” is helping your body adjust to a climate of a green house. Because that’s where it was grown because January is not tomato season.

When we choose to eat foods that are grown elsewhere, we miss out on vital vitamins and nutrients. We also are polluting the planet by having food shipped all over instead of eating with the seasons and supporting the farmers next door.

In short, shop local, sign up for a CSA, and reap the incredible benefits of the foods that were GROWN to help you THRIVE! I promise you will taste and feel the difference!
