In Kirundi, inzoga means liquor—more broadly, it’s an umbrella term for alcohol in Burundi. The root, -zoga, comes from the Bantu word -yoga, meaning “to wash” or “to bathe.” A literal translation lands somewhere around the liquid for bathing. That meaning really resonated with me.
Across cultures, alcohol has long been more than something to drink. It’s poured out for our loved ones who are longer here, shared to bless new beginnings, raised in celebration, grief, gratitude, and love. A vessel for ritual as much as revelry.
I think music carries that same possibility/ contains similar multitudes. A dancefloor can be a place of release. A place to sweat, to remember, to forget. To dissolve into something bigger than yourself, even if only for a few hours. To leave feeling just a little lighter than when you arrived.
That’s the spirit behind INZOGA. Not just a party, but an invitation to bathe in sound—to let rhythm, bass, and movement do what they have always done: bring people together.
Joining me behind the decks are two good friends all the way from NYC, Grabba Ranks + Noah G and I couldn’t be happier to share this night with them (and you!!). Come dance, celebrate, and let the music wash over you 🛀🔊🪩🥂
