Turning off the trending music to share 0:26 seconds straight out of Zoey & Blake's film 🙂‍↕️

It's fun (when it suits the couple and when available) to license popular music, but nobody talks about choosing the backtrack. It's like the backbone of the film. It truly makes or breaks the entire vibe. This one was just the right amount of emotion and anticipation.

I sometimes spend entire work days picking music and every film usually lands with 2-3 songs. A story should be told how it was felt, whether that's emotional, anticipatory, funny, a party vibe.....or most likely: a mix of all of them.

Sessions with kids, I believe, should revolve around something they'll have fun doing. For these boys, that meant chasing each other around the park, tackling mom and dad, and me embarrassing myself in whichever way resulted in the best giggles 😜 because forced smiles are no fun for anyone.

So yes, of course we'll try for a photo or two of everyone smiling at the camera.... But I think you're going to like all the unscripted photos better anyway 😉

When I tell you I've been sitting on this song for over a year 😏

But ya have to wait till you're in the edit to see if it feels RIGHT. Not every film can handle a quirky song. And even if it can, not every couple wants it 🤷🏼‍♀️ so here's my process for choosing music...

1. Pull audio for my storyline set up (speeches, vows, ceremony, everything) & craft the couple's story
2. Check my couple's questionnaire to see what the vibe they desire is (quirky, romantic, eccentric, dreamy, cinematic, party)
3. Music hunt. The best and worst part about the entire process. Sometimes the stars align and I knock it out in an hour. Sometimes it's an entire day - no joke. The last thing I'll ever do is rush your project to get it out the door.
4. Make the magic in the edit 😎 blending what the couple's desires are with my personal editing style.

Every single film is truly hand crafted from scratch and made to fit my couples. Templates and cookie cutters are boooooring and so out 😝

Hot take: an espresso martini must have 3 beans garnished. I received my education by watching Below Deck 😆

I'm not sure how I got so lucky that third wheeling date night, laughing, and trying out creative concepts became my job?! 🥹🥲 Throwing it back to one of my favorite engagement shoots from this last fall with Brianna & Matt. Brianna brought the vision board and I said "say less".

It's a little scary how fast time moves. The last time I saw them was for some maternity photos. The time before that was their wedding. And now as I post this, their sweet baby girl is already a few months old 🥲🥹💞 The toes, the wrinkles, her tiny little face - they're already a little bit different now too.

Newborn sessions are on the top of my favorite list because freezing this moment in time is not only special, but essential! They're different day by day. I adore freezing these moments in time 🫶🏼
