1. YOU ARE THE UNOFFICIAL COORDINATOR!
If you are new to weddings, let me break the news to you-YOU ARE THE UNOFFICIAL COORDINATOR for the day. If anything goes wrong, it falls on you not the event coordinator. If the caterer isnāt ready, or the photographer needs five more minutes, itās your responsibility to stretch that time without making everyone feel awkward.
Having a print out of the timeline so you can stay on track is extremely helpful. This way you donāt have to rely on the coordinator to tell you when things are happening.
2. DJing weddings is a stress that you have to be ready for!
This isnāt someoneās birthday party, or a packed 200 person club, itās someone special day. They only get one, and itās your responsibility to make it memorable. Missing the mark on something such as getting the first dance song wrong isnāt just a āmy badā moment. Itās tears that will be shed.
3. Donāt be cheap, spend money on quality equipment!
These are once in a lifetime moments, itās extremely important for you to prioritize purchasing quality equipment. This will ensure your clients arenāt leaving you a zero out of five star rating with their hand out for a partial refund because your microphone ran out of batteries during the ceremony, or your speakers cutting on and off because itās clipping.
4. Itās not about you!
In the club, everyone is there to listen to your sound, but at a wedding, theyāre just there to enjoy the couple. Out shining the couple by talking too much over the mic, or doing too much will leave a bad impression on the client, and their family.
5. You have to be able to multitask while staying in a good mood.
No one likes a negative Nancy. (or a negative Ned) All night you will be pulled in every direction by the constant song request, drunk guest, wedding party, event coordinator, photographer, caterer, and itās up to you to be able to multitask and answer everyone as well as continue to concentrate on the music youāre playing, while also keeping a cool head.
