Paseo Boricua in Chicago's Humboldt Park is the only street in the world marked by permanent steel Puerto Rican territorial flags. They were installed in 1995 as a direct response to gentrification, displacement, and the erasure of a community that had been building its life on Division Street for decades. This was not decoration. This was a declaration.

The Boricua community of Chicago didn't just survive, they claimed their ground. They named their streets, raised their flags, and made sure that no developer, no city plan, and no wave of displacement could pretend they were never there. That is what it means to be Boricua: you don't just occupy a place, you consecrate it. Drop a 🇵🇷 if you know someone who carries Chicago in their chest. Tag a Boricua who needs to see this.
