One of our favorite things about First Light is hearing what filmmakers and audiences take away from the experience.

This session felt especially warm. The director of Faded Memories shared how the screening space felt welcoming and different from other short film venues - a place where people can discover a wider range of films, meet fellow creatives, and exchange ideas. It was also a reminder of how important community is in independent filmmaking.

We also heard from the director of Hometown Passenger, who talked about the joy of sharing a film they had worked hard on and felt proud of. Watching a film with an audience, seeing how people respond, and knowing that a personal story can connect with others is always something special.

Moments like these are what make First Light more than just a screening. It’s a space for stories, conversations, and connections - and we’re grateful to share it with everyone who joins us. 🎬✨

[ภาษาไทย ดูด้านล่าง] From friends to strangers, and back again. “Faded Memories” is a short film which sees old acquaintances reunite and reflect — over the times they used to share, and the regrets they’ve carried since.

By weaving between past and present, director and screenwriter Rajachapruek Tiyajamorn puts together a universally relatable story. “Faded Memories” brings the paths of Nueng and Ann together, years after they first met in high school. The film follows their fast friendship, as the duo spontaneously decide to produce an amateur film before they graduate. It’s a first for either of them, with their inexperience leading to lighthearted mishaps throughout their scrappy filmmaking process. Director Tiyajamorn constructs a loving recreation of bygone years, down to post-Y2K Internet cafes and Windows Movie Maker. Besides this fond blast to the past, “Faded Memories” also serves up a tribute to youthful aspirations, as told through filmmaking and creative pursuits. It celebrates the fun and excitement of showing one’s work to the world, while showing the vulnerability that comes with it. This is a film as gentle as it is melancholic, with a refusal to shy away from the emotional toll inherent in both life and art. And in this fascinating juxtaposition of past and present, “Faded Memories” unearths meaning from mistakes. Tiyajamorn’s script deftly shows how time recontextualizes what we used to see in the past. Yes, even our most vulnerable, embarrassing moments can mean something special to us. Time may be measured in both hours and minutes, yet works in mysterious ways. Perhaps we can all look back on the things that used to make us cry, and do so with a smile.

International exposure is where independent stories find new horizons! We are absolutely thrilled to share the success of our cross-border collaboration between ME GOODY and Mapúa University for CineMapua 2026!

On May 21st, we brought a special showcase of independent Thai indie films straight to the Mapúa Makati campus lobby in the Philippines. We were honored to share three profound, thought-provoking films that represent the incredible depth of our local talent:

A student taking a gap year while helping run her family’s handmade leather shoe business reconnects with a close friend who once shared the same dreams. As they relive old memories between the railway tracks and the shoe shop, she begins to realize that holding on to both a relationship and a dream is far more difficult than she ever imagined.

New, a printmaking student, remains trapped in the past following the loss of her close friend, Wa. At the same time, mysterious particles begin appearing before her again and again, seemingly carrying a connection to Wa.

Nueng, an Isaan voice actor, meets Anne when she expresses interest in renting his old house in Khon Kaen, Thailand. He sees this as an opportunity to finally confess the feelings he has kept hidden for 15 years, ever since they worked together on a short film in the countryside of Khon Kaen in 2007.

A student taking a gap year while helping run her family’s handmade leather shoe business reconnects with a close friend who once shared the same dreams. As they relive old memories between the railway tracks and the shoe shop, she begins to realize that holding on to both a relationship and a dream is far more difficult than she ever imagined.

🎥 ละอองจำแลง
New, a printmaking student, remains trapped in the past following the loss of her close friend, Wa. At the same time, mysterious particles begin appearing before her again and again, seemingly carrying a connection to Wa.

🎥 Faded Memories
Nueng, an Isaan voice actor, meets Anne when she expresses interest in renting his old house in Khon Kaen, Thailand. He sees this as an opportunity to finally confess the feelings he has kept hidden for 15 years, ever since they worked together on a short film in the countryside of Khon Kaen in 2007.

เด็กซิ่วที่ใช้เวลาช่วง Gap Year ในการเฝ้ากิจการร้านรองเท้าหนังทำมือของครอบครัว ได้กลับไปพบเจอกับเพื่อนสนิทที่เคยมีความฝันร่วมกัน พวกเธอกลับมาใช้ชีวิตเหมือนวันเก่า ๆ บนทางรถไฟและร้านรองเท้า แล้วเธอก็พบว่าการรักษาทั้งความสัมพันธ์และความฝันเป็นเรื่องที่ยากเกินกว่าเธอจะเข้าใจ

นิว นักศึกษาสาขาภาพพิมพ์ ยังคงจมอยู่กับอดีตหลังการจากไปของ “วา” เพื่อนสนิทของเธอ ในขณะเดียวกัน “ละอองประหลาด” ก็ปรากฏให้เธอเห็นอยู่บ่อยครั้งและดูเหมือนมันจะเชื่อมโยงกับวา
