So⦠why Nerdy 4 Food?
A few folks have asked how we came up with the name and the idea behind our food truck, and it felt like the right time to share the story.
When I was young, my mother used to make a dish she called Portuguese Stew. It was warm, rich, and comfortingāone of those meals that sticks with you long after the plate is empty. Sadly, she passed away before I ever had the chance to learn the recipe.
Years later, after I discovered a passion for cooking (and spent more time than I care to admit on recipe forums and food blogs), I tried to track it down. I searched high and low, but nothing ever quite matched what I remembered. Eventually, I gave up on the idea of ever tasting it again.
Then I met my partner.
After telling her the storyāwhat the dish tasted like, how it made me feelāshe started asking questions: Where was your mom born? Where did she grow up? What time period? I gave her what I could remember, and off she went.
With some deep research, a solid understanding of flavor profiles, and a lot of heart, she pieced it together. She figured out that my mother, born in Australia and raised in Hawaii, likely adapted the recipe with what was available at the time. And my partner nailed it. She recreated the stew. One taste and I was transported right back to my childhood kitchen.
I looked at her and said, āYouāre such a nerd when it comes to food.ā
She smiled and replied, āYupāIām nerdy for food.ā
And thatās where it all started.
From that moment on, we knew we wanted to bring that same passion, curiosity, and creativity to a food truckāserving up bold, flavorful dishes inspired by culture, memory, and a deep love of everything delicious (with a little nerdy flair, of course).
This is just the beginningāand we canāt wait to share it with all of you.
