So… why Nerdy 4 Food?

A few folks have asked how we came up with the name and the idea behind our food truck, and it felt like the right time to share the story.

When I was young, my mother used to make a dish she called Portuguese Stew. It was warm, rich, and comforting—one of those meals that sticks with you long after the plate is empty. Sadly, she passed away before I ever had the chance to learn the recipe.

Years later, after I discovered a passion for cooking (and spent more time than I care to admit on recipe forums and food blogs), I tried to track it down. I searched high and low, but nothing ever quite matched what I remembered. Eventually, I gave up on the idea of ever tasting it again.

Then I met my partner.

After telling her the story—what the dish tasted like, how it made me feel—she started asking questions: Where was your mom born? Where did she grow up? What time period? I gave her what I could remember, and off she went.

With some deep research, a solid understanding of flavor profiles, and a lot of heart, she pieced it together. She figured out that my mother, born in Australia and raised in Hawaii, likely adapted the recipe with what was available at the time. And my partner nailed it. She recreated the stew. One taste and I was transported right back to my childhood kitchen.

I looked at her and said, “You’re such a nerd when it comes to food.”

She smiled and replied, “Yup—I’m nerdy for food.”

And that’s where it all started.

From that moment on, we knew we wanted to bring that same passion, curiosity, and creativity to a food truck—serving up bold, flavorful dishes inspired by culture, memory, and a deep love of everything delicious (with a little nerdy flair, of course).

This is just the beginning—and we can’t wait to share it with all of you.

In Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the dolphins knew what was up. Before Earth got blown to bits, they gave us one last message:

We took that personally. So here’s our edible tribute to those interstellar smart-alecks:

🌮 Crispy deep-fried tilapia, topped with a tangy Greek yogurt slaw and a splash of sweet heat from our house-made mango chutney, all tucked into a warm corn tortilla.

🌺 Nani’s Pulled Pork – Big Sister Energy on a Bun

Holding down the house, working two jobs, dealing with aliens—and still managing to keep the ‘ohana together? That’s Nani.

Inspired by Lilo & Stitch, this sandwich is our tribute to big sisters, island flavors, and the kind of love that holds everything together.

🍍 Applewood-smoked pork shoulder, slow roasted and glazed with a house-made Huli Huli sauce, served on a Hawaiian sweet bun.
🥗 Paired with a bright pineapple slaw and a side of creamy macaroni and potato salad—just like a plate lunch from back home.

It’s comforting. It’s tender. It’s full of love.

In Attack on Titan, food becomes something rare: a moment of peace in a brutal world. Niccolo, a Marleyan chef, risked everything to share his cooking—with meaning, with care, with heart. His paella wasn’t just a meal. It was a message.
