Last year the Boys & Girls Club’s main facility in Waynesboro, Virginia caught fire and most of the contents inside were damaged or destroyed. After a lengthy remodel process, and setting up a temporary club nearby, the organization is planning to move back into the main building in December to start serving kids again in January 2022.

Hardiman-Williams is organizing a book drive to help restock the new library at the Club. We are seeking new books for children aged 5-12. Mysteries, Sci-Fi, story books, character books, bios. Popular titles: Star Wars, Dr. Suess, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Harry Potter, Judy Blume, Dogman series, Junie B. Jones, Boxcar Children, Marvel/D.C. character books. No worries if we get duplicates – we have a lot of kids!

If you can get a book or two (or more) for the Club, feel free to drop them off at our Charlottesville office location below or message us for pick up in Waynesboro, Staunton, or Augusta County.

Drop off location: M-Th between 10:00 – 4:00 at

HW partner Tom Hardiman was recently asked to serve on the DEI Task Force for the Virginia Society of Association Executives (VSAE). The Task Force was established in May 2021 to encourage opportunities for discussion and education among VSAE members relating to DEI, share resources and best practices, and help define what diversity, equity, and inclusion means to the association and its membership.

"I'm excited to serve on this task force and looking forward to our first meeting," said Hardiman. "My first priority will be to listen and learn from the experiences of others in the group."

“I thank each of these individuals for stepping forward to serve on the Task Force and to lead this important initiative,” said VSAE President Dingus. “We’re hopeful that the discussions, activities and outcomes that come forth from this effort will serve as a resource to our members and their organizations as they too go on this DEI discovery journey.”

Article 2

For many non-profit professionals, fulfilling the promise of the mission is what drives their passion. Doing the work and seeing the results of their efforts is very rewarding. However, many people don’t realize just how much “back room” work goes into helping a non-profit fulfill its mission. Non-profit organizations must file tax returns and annual reports, have liability insurance, workers comp, and payroll taxes. They must budget accordingly, then go get the funds necessary to do the mission work. In short, there are numerous requirements for compliance that must be address so that the organization is able to deliver on its mission. One late report or missed deadline can cost an organization hundreds of dollars, and potentially jeopardize the entire organization.

We created this governance audit checklist to provide a tool for non-profits to help ensure they stay on track and can keep doing the great work they do in our communities. While its intended to be a self-audit tool, our company can also provide this service for area non-profits. Keep up the great work!
