Happy Father’s Day to all you awesome dads out there!
Especially mine and my husband (pictured at the end)
Charging gear and packing to photograph Molly and Matts wedding this weekend in Wilmington at the lovey ! It’s going to be amazing!
Also… wait until you see her bridals! 😬😃
She had the courage to leave a comfy job, risk going on her own as an entrepreneur… not only survived, but thrived during a pandemic.
She loves fully and truly cares about her friends and family. Is present, attentive and inclusive to even the littlest of them all.
Her husband Matt says he never doesn’t want to be around her. They can talk for days - she’s all he needs.
Meet Caroline.
Congratulations Caroline and Matt!
They seriously did not stop laughing or smiling all day.
During a call with Matt (prior to their wedding) he described them as the “best couple ever”. That when people see them and think wow they look happy - it’s because they really are. That they compliment each other in every way - ying to her yang.
This is so evident and their happiness is so contagious!
Looking to create a more meaningful heartfelt wedding experience?
Consider exchanging letters with one another on your wedding day.
What should I write in this letter?
Whatever you want, it’s your wedding, your relationship - make it yours. If you’re looking for some tips - here you go!
8 tips on writing a love letter to your spouse to be:
1. Consider the first time you met, or maybe the first time you realized this person was YOUR person. Share the story from your perspective. Tell them why and what it means to you to have found them.
2. Consider things you are proud of them for. Things they’ve overcome since you’ve been together.
3. Tell them a few things you are grateful for about them and what it means to you to have it.
4. Think of ways they’ve helped you grow and how they’ve inspired you.
5. Reflect on your relationship and what you appreciate about it.
6. Tell them why you can not wait to spend the rest of your life with them.
7. Add some humor. Every couple has their own unique humor so make it yours.
8. Wrap it up with a heartfelt promise or vow.
Not only will this likely melt their heart - you’ll melt your own while writing it and be so much more present to WHY you’re marrying this person on your wedding day.
Best time to exchange letters? Right after you get ready or if you’re doing a ”first touch” or “first look”

One of the most common fears we hear from our couples is… what if it rains?
While it certainly can shift and alter plans, we happen to think it’s not only good luck, but it’s magical.
It brings rainbows, crazy stormy yet beautiful skies, gorgeous sunsets and if your photographer knows how to use light… they can create some magic with the rain itself or “puddles” afterwards.
“In a sea of people, my eyes will always search for you.”
I love finding interesting backdrops for photographs.
Like this curtain that most people overlook.
We were able to take some steamy romantics as well as fun “photobooth” style photos of their family.
**scroll to see what most people probably see with the curtain in the last cell phone photo of our ridiculously delicious vendor meals. Seriously, I’ve been doing this 17 years, that vendor meal was definitely the top 2. If you haven’t been to yet, you have to go! I know I’ll be back.
So much excitement, love and support in one photo.
Shaina and Dana joke that no other couples have this much fun. It’s so evident throughout their day. So many joyful tears and laughter.

Lemonade makers.
That’s what our clients are.
We planned Ashley and Johns Engagment session in Wilmington. We knew it might rain (and if it did we’d be ready) but we thought it’d be more “scattered.”
It wasn’t. It poured the majority of their session.
They went for it anyways. And the photos we were able to create BECAUSE of the rain.
Pure magic.
As I was revising Alana and Tyler’s wedding album today.. I was reminded just how many amazing photos I haven’t shared yet.
Like this one…
This one was taken during her
It was a happy accident. A test shot. Gotta love when this happens. Her mom is actually fixing her dress below… but I just love her expression and the candidness of this photo.
Life can be so freaking hard…
Sometimes you just gotta get all dolled up and pose like a goddess…
Even if it’s just to remind yourself…
You are.
You asked for it…

Thinking out loud…
My wheels have been turning since my discovery yesterday.
Watch to find out more.
Also… disclaimer I definitely am still photographing weddings so please do still reach out. Even if I do quit them all together in the future, I can always refer someone amazing to you.
And I’m definitely going to be doing more bo***ir, so please do also contact me about those!
… and if you have a suggestion for another career path for me. I’m open to exploring. 🤪
So excited to design Stephanie and Tommy’s wedding album together today!
They originally planned their wedding for May 2020… but covid.
They ended up going for a small wedding last year
and postponed their big celebration to the fall… then again the following fall.
They finally got to have their big celebration THIS fall - and what a celebration it was!
This fall truly was magical.
Every morning I’d admire all the beautiful leaves and trees on the way to drop my daughter Ava off.
So thankful for all the seasons and that each one brings on a new appreciation for life.
Speaking of, Kenan and Matt are in a huge state of gratitude right now as they start their lives together.
They have so much to be grateful for… their sweet dog Layla, the beautiful home they purchased in the heart of plaza midwood and their careers that they both are passionate about.
But most of all… each other and the beautiful relationship they’ve created.
Seeing your work in print is just sooo much more satisfying (and rare these days)… especially when it’s in
We can’t take the credit here - it was really Anna’s vision, resilience and the amazing team of vendors that made this happen. it.
Bonus if you want some awesome advice for wedding planning … or really just life in general, I found this in Anna’s questionnaire- it’s gold!
“No matter how crazy or hectic or upsetting or stressful things get, just remember to always go back to each other. Some of our most gut-wrenching decisions ended up being while we were sitting on the floor of a walk-in closet folding clothes and eating straight from a tub of ice cream. And those are somehow some of our best memories of the pandemic portion of wedding planning. It was just us two, making decisions, crying a little, eating our feelings a little, and then laughing at just how ridiculous it all was.”
Can we talk about these two and their style for a second?
I mean just take it all in. Their accessories, bouquets, Morgan’s dress, Danielle’s jumpsuit!
Perfection, pure perfection.
Also, love that they are both barefoot!
So on top of our busiest wedding season yet - my husband is also a dj for
We decided to add one more thing to our to do list.
Launch a our first “Be Happy like a Dog!”
We launched yesterday, and are overwhelmed with all the support and love from everyone.
We even landed a #1 spot on Amazon for new releases in the children’s dog book category. Wahoo!
If you know of any 1-4 year olds who love interactive books (or parents who want to read something fun with a life lesson) we’d love for you to share our book with them. We think it’d make the perfect Christmas present! 😉

I believe we’re all big people capable of achieving big dreams.
Sometimes though, we need reminders of that… especially on the days we really question it.
For 16 years now, my passion has been photographing people in a way that shows their strength. My hope has always been that they’ll see it and go hell yeh, that’s me! …That I reflect back to them the person they already know they are.
Alec didn’t need amazing portraits to know how awesome he was, but he certainly did deserve it.
Alec, I look forward to watching you dominate at the World Cup one day… and geeking out about how I photographed you. 😊
It’s the perfect time to...
Save
Work out
Love your body
Work on that project you’ve been putting off
...and on and on.
It’s also the perfect time to look at your life and make your life RIGHT.... right now, just as it is. To choose happiness RIGHT NOW.
So many times I find myself dreaming of the future, writing and working on my goals, dreaming of our next home - and all it could be.
But sometimes (especially us high achievers) can get so caught up in our future that we don’t appreciate what we have…. And if we don’t do that now, why do we think we’ll do that when we get that next thing.. Or to that next level?
Maybe right now is the time for us to stop and think about what is working
...and celebrate that.
Yes, right now IS PERFECT!
Wahoo it’s Friday! 🍾
And today isn’t just any ordinary Friday.
Today is the day I deliver Alana and Tyler’s wedding photos.
My favorite part, seeing their reactions and watching them relive their day all over again.
I can not wait!
She wears pink lipstick
She unapologetically cries
... and she just graduated medical school and is starting her residency at Wake Forest Baptist Health.
These two clicked immediately.
For a while just as friends, but it became clear that they were more.
Each other’s person. 🤗
I was fortunate enough to photograph Molly’s senior session many years ago at the aviation museum in Charlotte.
I was beyond thrilled when she hired me for her and Matts wedding too.
So when Matt was telling me about his hobby as a pilot, I was hoping it would work out to photograph with a plane again.
You see, not only is Matt a pilot but Molly’s grandfather was too.
Not only did the airport make an awesome backdrop, but it really brought out the best in these two.
One of our favorite moments from Ashley and John’s wedding.
Where they slowed down, danced,
laughed...
just enjoyed being with each other on their day!
This is your reminder today...
Slow down
Connect with someone you love
Appreciate this moment right now!
“She’s not afraid to be who she is.
Strong,
passionate,
works hard - plays hard.”
... just a few things Tyler said about Alana during our discovery call with him.
Seriously, we love that he loves these things about her so much.
Another beautiful album printed in Italy - delivered! We hope Samantha and Justin enjoy this album for many generations.
Being an only child, Justin’s friends are like family to him.
It was important to him that we capture them having fun together.
Anna had a vision for what her dress would look like.
She was told no by several designers.
She didn’t let that stop her.
Finally one designer said yes.
killed it! She brought Anna’s white dress that transformed to a rainbow dress together perfectly.
Anna you are an inspiration. Let’s all hold onto our dreams and vision until it’s a reality.
“A life lived in love will never be dull” -Leo Buscaglia
One of the things Jeff adores about Ashley is just how much she LOVES life.
She lights up, gets a big smile on her face and gets excited about even the littlest of things.
For example when they go for a walk together, she is constantly stopping to appreciate everything around them whether it be a flower in bloom or the sunset.
She always makes time to stop and appreciate them.
To say we love this about her (and him for noticing) is an understatement. One of our biggest “why’s” in photographing weddings is to give our clients something tangible that has them stop and TAKE IN just how amazing they are, their life is, and how much they are truly loved.

When I got married, I remember thinking… but what if my wedding isn’t interesting enough for these photographers? What if I invest all this money, and there’s not enough moments, and they think my wedding is boring? Now… this is silly when I think about this now, but I know it’s a valid fear that others have too. I also KNOW that a great photographer can find magic in the “small” moments. That they can find light in a bathroom..yes a bathroom, and create something magical with it. I know that if you pay attention, you can see magic everywhere. In the way people look at each other, touch each other, hold their own hands, laugh, cry. I know this is true, because this is what I do for others. It’s not made up, it’s just focusing on THEIR unique magic. Every single wedding has it, because every single human being and all creation has it. Let me discover and capture YOUR magic. Elly ❤️ “Not only is she an amazing listener who genuinely wants to fulfill the needs and desires of her clients but she does it as an artist telling a magical story. Except it's really you!!!” -Akasha. www.ellysphotography.com 336-413-2034

Leo’s newborn session was seriously so amazing. I don’t know if it was because I’m pregnant, or because it was some of my favorite wedding clients and I got to be a part of this special time in their life too... or maybe all of the above. “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were…. marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death.” This was an excerpt from Rebecca and Marisa’s Ceremony. A moment that gripped us all - even me - I was choking up and fighting back the tears as I fought them to see to photograph these precious moments. Earlier that week I was listening to Same Love by Macklemore, experiencing how far we’ve come. Just 2 ½ years ago we were still fighting for this right. I was struck with appreciation for humankind and our capacity for love and advancement. Fast forward, to hear this quote at their wedding, an excerpt from the legal ruling that makes this union possible. Was unreal - Such a beautiful and surreal moment. What’s absolutely amazing is this was both Rebecca and Marisa’s favorite moment too! Their wedding was full of love, joy, humor and fun! Their friends and family truly came together to support them and shower them with love. I think it speaks to who they both are, supportive, thoughtful, loving human beings who light up this world. It was an honor to be a part of this beautiful experience and to get to know these two remarkable women and all the awesome people that they surround themselves with.. #Ihavethebestjobever Rebecca K.
