Happy labor day! This was a new color palette for us although very popular. My bride wanted greens and white. During our consultation I introduced her to some naturally green roses. Hello lemonade/lime roses! So glad she said yes.

Repost from - Welcome to a curated "Just Because" Weekend Escape that was created to incorporate some of the things I love, for an enhanced retreat away. So in the Zora Neale Hurston room of the Akwaaba Bed & Breakfast D.C., my family of friendors helped me capture the essence of what I wanted to experience this past weekend in the heart of Chocolate City!

I wanted organically arranged fragrant flowers in rich jewel tones. I wanted my favorite Moscato wine customized to why I was celebrating. I wanted the inspiration of forever First Lady and the fire of Zora Neale Hurston at my finger tips and so much more!

Donate Now | Faces of Hope 2019 Calendar by Along Comes Hope

GRATITUDE is our word for 2019 and I wanted to share an experience that I'm truly grateful for from 2018. We had the pleasure of attending a flower workshop with Holly Chapple at Hope Flower Farm benefiting a wonderful organization Along Comes Hope.

In all honesty I was looking forward to working with some of the best in the floral industry, people I've admired for years - Holly, Hitomi Gilliam, Sue McLeary, Gregor Lersch, Francoise Weeks and the many Chapel Designers also in attendance.

What I didn't expect was the ultimate joy that would come from being a blessing to cancer survivors and their caregivers in our area. Wow oh wow!

As a designer we often want to create huge elaborate designs, so I must admit, I was slightly let down when I was told to design for a 7 year old model. But the joy on little Sabrina and her mother's face brought so many feelings.

At the time, my own daughter was 8. As a mom, I know what it's like to want your child to feel beautiful, feel joy and forget their pain, even if for a moment. Being able to help provide a small snapshot of that was everything and bigger than any blessing I could have imagined.

One of the biggest compliments to receive is "how'd you do that?" That's exactly what several eager brides to be said when they saw this design I created to display at the Muna Love Affair. Now I don't always give out every single detail of my technique. Years of floral experience and training are a part of what our clients expect us to deliver at each wedding, and we do.

It still fills me with joy every time I hear those words because I know they like it enough to want it for themselves. Give joy and receive joy in return.
