Make time for a little witchcrafting this October! Join Open Circle and Laurie of Ashes to Ashes Pop Up Shop for Corn Dolly Witchcrafting—an afternoon of harvest magic, remembrance, and creating something meaningful with your own hands.

🌾 Learn the tradition
Discover the history and folklore of corn dollies, traditionally crafted from the last stalks of harvested grain to give the spirit of the harvest a home through winter and carry hopes for renewed growth into spring.

🌿 Add your intention
Choose from herbs provided for the workshop, including rosemary for remembrance. Weave in gratitude, a wish for the coming season, or love for someone whose memory you carry.

🕯️ Honor your loved ones
As Samhain draws near, you’re welcome to dedicate your dolly to an ancestor or someone you miss. Create a personal keepsake for your remembrance altar or a meaningful place in your home.

✨ Take home more than a craft
You’ll leave with your finished corn dolly, the historical meaning behind it, and the knowledge you need to make more. Laurie will guide you through the process, and we’ll supply all the materials.

As the days grow shorter and Samhain draws near, join Open Circle for an afternoon of hands-on witchcrafting, harvest folklore, and heartfelt remembrance. Gather with us to create something beautiful—with meaning woven into every strand.

🌾 A craft with roots
Corn dollies were traditionally made from the last stalks of harvested grain. In European harvest folklore, they offered the spirit of the grain a home through winter, carrying hope for abundance and renewed growth into spring. Laurie will guide you through making your own while sharing the history and symbolism behind the tradition.

🌿 Make it personal

We hear this in the shop all the time about the corn dollies handmade by Ashes to Ashes Pop Up Shop!

You can enjoy yours as décor, a seasonal altar piece, or a reminder of gratitude and growth. Here’s where the harvest connection comes from—and how you might use one throughout the year.

🌾 THE HARVEST CONNECTION
In some European customs, the last-cut grain became a keepsake believed to shelter the crop’s spirit through winter. Some were returned to the fields at planting time. Customs varied by region.

These seasonal ideas combine that folklore with optional modern practices:

🌞 LAMMAS & LUGHNASADH • August 1
Celebrations with different historical roots and shared harvest associations. Display your dolly beside bread or seasonal produce in gratitude for what nourishes you.

🍂 AUTUMN EQUINOX • Around September 22–23
Called Mabon in many modern Pagan traditions. Place your dolly on a harvest table or altar while reflecting on gratitude and sharing.

🎃 SAMHAIN • October 31–November 1
Samhain marks the transition into winter in Gaelic tradition. Your dolly can be a personal reminder of what you wish to carry into the coming season.

❄️ WINTER
Keep yours indoors as a reminder of nourishment and returning growth, echoing older customs of keeping harvest tokens through winter.

🌱 IMBOLC & ST. BRIGID’S DAY • February 1
Irish customs include a doll representing Brigid, called a Brídeóg, and preparing “Brigid’s bed” to welcome her on January 31, St. Brigid’s Eve. Customs vary.

For a modern observance, place your dolly in a small basket or bed lined with cloth or straw, intentionally using it to represent Brigid and welcome renewal.

🌷 SPRING PLANTING
Display yours near your planting supplies as you sow seeds and set hopes for new growth. You can keep your dolly year after year.

No special ritual required! Dates follow Northern Hemisphere seasons. Keep dry and away from flames.
