Dear Friends and Parents,
We'd like to start folk dance practices with our Children Folk Dance Groups to get ready for the Raleigh International Festival and Children’s Day Festival in Cary.
We will meet on Sundays and we may meet on some Saturdays as well for extra practice if needed.
We will have two Dance groups this year:
1- Children’s Folk Dance Team (Age 6-10): Meets every Sunday 12:45-1:30 pm
2- Youth Folk Dance Team (Age 11-15): Meets every Sunday 1:30-2:30 pm
Raleigh International Festival (March 6-8) is an event that many countries represent their culture and it is important for us to have a strong representation. Children's Day Festival (April 18) is an event that our organization puts together and it is very important for us to have a good showing as the hosting country. We hope that our dancers will be present for all the practice sessions to be ready to have a good showing at upcoming festivals.
If you are interested in having your child join the group please come to the first practice this Sunday at the Turkish House. Feel free to contact Ilkay Cubukcu or me directly if you have any questions or concerns. You can ask your questions in person before or after the practice as well. Hope to see you and your kids at the Turkish House in Cary this Sunday and every sunday after until the Children's Day Festival. .

All,
Turkish Folk Dance group is looking for new adult members (16 and up). We will have a practice for new members today (Sunday Nov 24th)) at 1pm at the ATA-NC Turkish House (303 E Durham Rd. Cary ). This is very last minute but we will have some other practices for new interested people soon. So please come today or let me know that you are interested so I can inform you about our upcoming practices.

Dear Turkish Community and friends,
We are looking to add new members to ATA-NC's folk dance group. We have an informal practice tomorrow at 1:30 pm tomorrow (Sunday) at the Turkish House. Even if you have two left feet please come and join us, We are good at fixing "two left feet" issues.
Younger people (teens) who are looking into learning more are welcome too. Also we are in need of some more male participation. Of course this is open to all our non-Turkish friends as well. Please come even if you are not serious about this and just want to give it a try or simply watch.

ATA-NC'nin Turk halk oyunlari grubuna yeni uyeler eklemek istiyoruz. Yarin (Pazar) oglenden sonra saat 1:30 da Cary deki Turk Evinde bir calisma yapacagiz. Gercekten hic yetenegim yok bile diyorsaniz hic sorun degil. Sizi kolay oyunlarla baslatip, tek tek adimlari gostererek ck eglenerek yapabileceginiz bir aktiviteye baslatabiliriz.
Su anda ozellikle erkek oyunculara ihtiyac duyuyoruz ama bayanlarada acigiz. Bu arada buna katilmak icin Turk olmak gerek diye bir sartta yok. Herkese acik. Buna ergenlik yasinda olan genclerimiz de dahil. Eger sadece "ugrayip bir denemek istiyorum" ya da "ben gelip bir izlemek istiyorum" diye dusunuyorsaniz bile lutfen gelin.

The workshop for this Saturday, Sept 19, with Betty Adcock and Noel Crook has been sold out for a long time, but you can still swing by the Turkish House in Cary at 4:30 to hear them read. Free and open to the public.
Everyone knows Betty's superb lyric poetry, but Noel Crook's work is excellent, too. She just won the Crab Orchard Poetry first book award for Salt Moon.(Traci Brimhall, among others, is a past winner of that award).
Notes from a Salt Flat Prisoner
Bonaire
On this island, love, there is nothing but black
and white—the sea’s flat back that keeps us,
bleak shards of coral honed sharp as knives
by tireless wavelets. And the salt—vast,
blinding pans for us to rake. It galls
our wrists and shins like manacles.
Nothing grows here but these crystals. Even
the dark seaweed swirling in the inlets
rises on spindly legs as if to swim
away. Small black lizards whisper
names of home against the dry rocks
and we boil them for it. We are sick
of fish. All day the sun’s blanched eye
seeks us, and not one rock
big enough to hide under. I am changed
by this place—like Lot’s wife
I look back, reconfigure
the purple shadows in the struts of your
ribs, your tongue in my mouth like pure fire.
Here there is no holy water or sin.
Each night we bathe ourselves in brine,
lie under a black collar of sky, the spume
of white salt stars, the salt white moon,
the sting of crystals blooming on our skin.
