COME HAVE A CHAT WITH MARK TWAIN! You may have seen the life size statue of our famous resident (1861-64) in Sparks reading a newspaper.

The Carson City statue is a bit friendlier depicting Mr. Twain at the ready to hear what you have to say.

COME TO MCFADDEN PLAZA this Friday evening (7/24) at 5:30 pm to welcome Mr. Twain back to Carson City upon which he had so much influence.

Sit with the man himself!!

Carson City’s public art collection continues to grow as a life-sized bronze sculpture of Mark Twain seated on a bench—with space for people to sit down and join him— makes its way to McFadden Plaza downtown.

The Board of Supervisors accepted the sculpture as a donation at its July 16th, 2026, meeting as part of Carson City's ongoing commitment to building a collection of high-quality public art for the enjoyment of residents as well as visitors.

Visit Carson City and community partners invite the public to celebrate the unveiling of this new sculpture by internationally acclaimed sculptor Gary Lee Price on Friday, July 24, at 5:30 p.m. in McFadden Plaza, with the official ribbon cutting at 6:00 p.m.

The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor Bagwell, Bob Stewart, and McAvoy Layne. Join in the celebration of Carson City's unique literary legacy as the birthplace of Mark Twain. The Fox Restaurant and Brewery will be providing appetizers, featuring the new Fox & Fire Pizzeria pizzas, and one free pint of beer from 5:30 to 6:30 in the Fox's Den.
