Things first year me was scared of… that current day me genuinely loves 🪞
✦Creative Fear + Visibility
Posting my work puts my art fully on display which naturally invites judgment + comparison. That vulnerability never fully goes away.
I now however have confidence in every creative choice I make because I know exactly why I do things the way I do.
✦Color
Early on bold colors made me nervous - blues, reds, anything that felt loud.
As I grew I learned how to control + balance color instead of avoiding it. Now I feel genuinely excited when clients show up in color. I still love a neutral sesh but lately I’ve been leaning into color!
✦Direct sunlight
I used to be strict about timing and waiting for softer light.
That late morning to noon sun - deep shadows - used to overwhelm me but years of weddings running on real timelines changed that mindset.
I’ve learned how to work with the sun instead of fighting it - welcoming it to any session!
✦Flash photography
The first time I added flash I had no idea what I was doing.
It felt awkward + unfamiliar.
Now it’s one of my favorite tools. Don’t be surprised if after sunset sessions make an appearance this summer.
✦Camera settings + gear
I started with a basic cam/kit lens.
Since then I’ve learned how cameras actually work then invested in a setup that supports my style.
At this point settings are second nature!
✦Unpredictability
Wind, kids with big emotions, timeline shifts, weather changes!
All the things I can’t control used to stress me out.
Now I plan for them + adapt quickly to be prepared for just about anything.
Experience changes everything 🦋
