Peony season is coming to a close, and it is hot! Way too hot and dry for the mountains of Western North Carolina in the spring. I remember two years ago, spending spring fighting rot and an onslaught of slugs in the garden, due to constant rain. The garden never stops presenting new challenges; there are always losses, but also many small wins. This spring was so dry the peonies were a little smaller than usual, but boy of boy, were they still beautiful.
