On December 2nd, the Greenbriar II Chorus, under the direction of Norman “Doc” Hart, kicked off the seasonal celebrations with a make-believe radio broadcast from the fictional radio station, WGB2 performed in front of the “studio audience.” Due to the illness of the Soprano soloist, the matinee performance of the Holiday Celebration Concert had to be rescheduled for December 17. Fortunately, most of the chorus members were still able to perform, and many of our regular audience members were still able to attend.
The concert consisted of seasonal music and Christmas favorites, both traditional and humorous. The chorus sang "Hanukkah is Here," "Winter Wonderland," "Let It Snow" and "The Christmas Song."
We were pleased to have our quartet of soloists return for another concert. They performed a variety of solos, duets, and trios and read childrens’ letters to Santa. Nancy Bembridge sang the lovely tune "Christmas Day." Ed Lamb told us about the inappropriate gifts he received from his true love last year in "The Twelve Days After Christmas." Robert Moen joined the chorus for "The Christmas Waltz" and Carol Fine Hart sang "I’ll Be Home for Christmas." The “studio audience” joined the chorus for a sing-a-long.
Tom Avakian played the role of the Radio Announcer. He amused the audience with his reading of Clement Moore’s classic poem "A Visit from Saint Nicholas" complete with orchestral interruptions and choral commentary. The entire ensemble finished the concert with a moving rendition of "God Bless Us Everyone."
Thank you everyone for the generous donations which raised $827 for Toys for Tots.
